Has Selective Mutism, however most believe her to be fully mute. Actually loves to sing, the few who have heard her sing actually say she has a beautiful voice, however she's scared of speaking in public. She has strong opinions and desires to help people, but her selective mutism holds her back. She has a small lisp and has trouble telling 'f' sounds from 'th' sounds and that is one of the stems of her SM.Her SM mostly stems from fear of embarrassing herself in public.

Libra, better known as Liesl, is a gentle and kindhearted soul. The kind of woman who enjoys occasional gossip over coffee. She appreciates all life and has a good natured sense of humor. Never would she imagine hurting another person, and if she does, she does whatever it takes to make amends. However, she can be very shy, so much so that she's selectively mute around people she's uncertain of. Despite her thin frame, Liesl has a huge appetite, and she always has. She'll try any food at least once, and likes most things she tries. Overall, Liesl is open minded and understanding of all walks of life, even if she doesn't personally agree.

But.....she wasn't always this way.

JANUARY 15TH 1999
LIESL - AGE 17

"C'mon, li! This way, I know a guy here who can take us out on the trail."
Liesl's best friend raced up the snowy sidewalk, leaving paw prints in her wake. She'd been told her name a million different times, and every time it was a different name, so she just called her Hai. It was cold enough out that there was snow on the ground, but not so cold that Liesl felt the need for a jacket. It was an exciting day, Liesl had been waiting to go hiking in the mountains with Hai for ages, and now it was finally happening.
"Hold on, I'm coming!" She called, picking up the pace. Liesl was notorious for being a party animal, and a bit of a troublemaker. She was well liked among the girls she hung out with, though, and that was all that mattered to her. Liesl threw rules and caution to the wind.

The mountains loomed over them menacingly as snow began to fall again from the sky. The weather had gotten colder, and Liesl was uncomfortably cold, but she didn't want to ruin the chance to trail blaze. At the bottom of the trail was a bulky looking male, who was giving Liesl a strange look. Hai trotted over to him and waved back at her
"Over here! This is Barley. He's gonna be our guide today."
Liesl looked him over as she approached. He looked to be a few years older than them, and confident, so she wasn't worried that he didn't know what he was doing. His stare was giving her a bad feeling, though. As they ascended the trail, that feeling dissipated in the wake of the excitement. It was a difficult trek, leaving Liesl cold and somewhat sore, but an enjoyable one nonetheless. About halfway up the top of the mountain, Hai stopped and turned to Liesl and Barley.
"Hey guys, I'm going to go ahead to take a quick bathroom break, take it easy while I'm gone, ok?" she told them, winking slightly at Liesl as she walked away. Barley, who hadn't been watching her too closely in the previous half hour or so, began to give her that unnerving look again, and took a few slow steps towards her as soon as Hai was out of sight. Immediately Liesl began to feel uneasy again. She backed away from him as he stepped forward, but her steady retreat didn't stop Barley's advances.

Liesl didn't realize how far he was pushing her off of the trail until it was too late. She continued to back away with only a few glances behind her, while Barley kept coming towards her menacingly. Before she knew it, Liesl was backed up to the edge of an overhang, paws nearly slipping over the edge, while Barley blocked her only escape. The larger kia took a step forward and reached out a paw, then without warning, jabbed it into Liesl's chest, sending her over the edge. Luckily, Liesl had reflexes quick enough to grab the ledge before she fell hundreds of feet to the ground below.



But Liesl was hardly out of the woods. Barley stood over her, staring down as she scrambled for a hold. Her claws left painful marks in the stone as they slipped. Once again, her trail guide lifted his paw towards her. In a strong bout of optimism, Liesl thought that he had reached out to try and pull her up. But contrary to her hopes, Barley was not that kind. He slammed his paw down onto hers as she struggled, causing Liesl to lose her grip and plummet towards the ground.

By some miracle, Liesl survived this fall. Landing in a tree, Liesl escaped lethal injury, though she still had some major wounds, mentally and physically. Several hours later, hearing her cries for help, a rescue team arrived and secured her. The attempt on her life left Liesl stunned and afraid. Of Hai, of Barley...ultimately Liesl became afraid of everyone. Her own mortality had been thrown into her face like a wet paper towel, and it left her a quivering mess. Liesl stayed this way for years, and though she's become more open to strangers, it still effects her to this day.

ＬＩＥＳＬ ＴＨＥ ＳＩＬＥＮＴ

"I felt different as a child, I knew I was different..."
A crayon danced across the perfectly crisp sheet of paper. An explosion of vibrant colors from all ends of the spectrum was being guided by a steady hand and a gentle stroke. A smile grew on the small kiamara's face, as she continued to draw quietly. "Liesl!"A familiar voice called from across the room. It was her teacher. Liesl swivelled in her seat and turned to look up at her teacher. "Do you want to go play outside with the others?" Her teacher questioned with a friendly smile. Liesl opened her mouth momentarily, but simply shook her head in response. Her teacher briefly glanced over the paper and pulled out a chair. She looked towards Liesl and picked up a piece of paper from the middle of the table and began to draw with her, whilst the other children giggled and ran around outside. That night, Liesl handed her drawing to her parents.

"As a teenager, I began to embrace creativity..."
Liesl had few friends, but those who were her friends were brothers and sisters to her. She couldn't physically communicate to her friends, so she communicated through sign language and facial expressions most often. When Liesl became frustrated or angry, she'd channel her anger or frustration through an art form. Whether that be art, music, writing or dancing, an art form would always relieve her stress or tension. As a teenager, Liesl also began to love nature. She became fascinated with the way that they communicated with eachother and interacted. Liesl spent most of her free time watching documentaries, or spending time around nature, where she felt most at home and inspired to write music or draw. Some found her unusual or odd, but she didn't care, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Liesl began to work as a teenager and gained money from selling her artwork and performing at concerts or restaurants around her town. She became the most popular local musician and adored playing the violin.

"Now I realize that we're all different"
Liesl blossomed in her late teenage years, becoming an exceptional artist and a taltented musician. Through hard
studying and dedication, Liesl is only a few steps away from becoming an animal behaviour specialist. Being mute is her gift that allows her to truly express herself honestly to others. Art is her hobby, but playing the violin is her passion. She feels that the music allows her to speak to an audience and that there's nothing more pure or emotionally connecting than hearing a melody from the strings of a violin. Liesl is a gentle soul, always wishing to make friends and help others. Her being a mute doesn't stop her from expressing herself. Liesl is always and optimist and looks at life from a postitve perspective. She's dedicated and hard-working and believes that if you try, you can achieve anything possible. She's extremely cautious and patient, not becoming flustered or upset easily. She likes to imagine herself as an average, caring kiamara.
