Benevolent beast or malicious monster? You decide...
The "black dog" is a supernatural creature that spans over many cultures, particularly European ones. Sometimes a vicious creature, sometimes a removed harbringer of death, and sometimes a misunderstood helper, it goes by many names and many forms. Of course, it's always a black canine. This horse and her companion are inspired by this unusual fabled beastie. To take them home, tell me a story of where they come from and/or how they met!
*Rare companion included!*

How did this mare and her friend meet?
It was cold, so very cold that it made Herra shiver under her saddle. Her master was angry and she could feel it in the way he gripped her reins so tight. She had heard the wolves last night, so close and the sent of blood still hung thick on the air. They had killed but Herra did not know what. The whole town had gathered. 8 horses and riders milled in her master's cobble stone courtyard. They seemed to be awaiting the hounds. Herra had been on hunts before but not like this one. The men were angry, thirsty for revenge.
Herra tilted her head at the sound of the barking of the hounds. The final rider approached and his shaggy grey wolf hounds trotted along beside the trim bay gelding. Herra had always hunted with the fox hounds, she had never seen the tall leith beasts the men used on wolves. They were all grey and shaggy, all except one. He was young and small compared to the others and his black coat made him stand out even more against the clone like crew of the other hounds.
When they set out Herra quickly became aware f the black hounds reasoning for being there. He was fast and fearless. Hours passed before the dogs picked up the trail of the wolves. And when they did find the pack Herra felt her stride faulter. The wolves were coated in gore and between their bodies lay the remains of what was once a child, now reduced to nothing recognizable. The hounds attacked and in turn so did the wolves. Chaos! Oh dear chaos. Horses bellowed, wolves howled, men yelled and dogs snarled. When all was done three hounds lay dead. Two horses limped badly and one man had bed ripped from his steeds back and mauled. The little black hound limped slightly and came to rest at Herra's hooves. She lowered her head to sniff at the brave little beast. Little did she know that this dog would become a gift from the hounds owner to her master for his loss. And Odin would become her lifelong companion, running I hunts with her every winter for wolves that dared tired too close to the village.
Dog's Name: Odin (From the Legend of Odin's hunt, Odin; god of the dead)
Dog's Gender: Male
Dog's Breed: Irish Wolfhound
Name a breed that you think best suits "the black dog" myth: I wanted to say Hellhound since from different variations of the legend of Odin's hunt he is accumpanied by hellhounds but since that's not actually a dog breed I'd have to go with the breed that I could only imagine would be as similar to a hell hound would have to be a big solid black Great Dane because they were raised for their size and strength to be good hunting dogs.
