Roll says... 5: Waking you.
"Sorry for waking you," you say. "You were kind of invisible from here."
Charisma +1.
She doesn't seem impressed, but her tone is a little friendlier. "I assume you're looking for someone, otherwise you wouldn't have yelled like that. Let me guess..." She looks you and your friends over. "Well, you aren't related to Oat, and you sure ain't mine. So you must have heard of Momma, and came by to talk with her."
"Yes, actually." You perk up. "She's alive, then?"
"'Course she is." The molly gives you an incredibly dry smile. "That old doxy ain't dying anytime soon."
"May we see her?" Thimble asks.
"I don't see why not." The molly jerks her head and turns around. "Come with me."
You follow her, with Scat directly behind you and Thimble taking up the rear. The molly leads you through the labyrinth of trees and ferns, with many twists, turns, and direct walks into the strange plants that give way easily. From the outside, the forest looked impenetrable, but the growth hides paths and potential dens in a way that almost makes you suspect someone had a hand in creating this place specifically for cats.
A minute or so passes before the molly makes a turn that opens onto a small clearing with a wide, wide tree whose roots are poking out of the ground. You can see holes made in the ground that are perfectly fitted for a large cat and are too dark to see into. The trees have parted just enough to let in scattered rays of light. This camp almost glows.
A golden queen is dozing, while at least six kits tumble over her and chase each other around the tree. As soon as the three of you step into the light, they all stop and stare.
"Oat!" your guide says, sounding irritated again.
The queen opens her eyes. She jerks up in surprise, sending a kitten rolling. "Rain? Wh-who's this?"
"Some kids want to see Momma," Rain says. "Where is she?"
"Oh, she..." Oat shuffles her feet. "She should be inside. It's afternoon, isn't it?"
"You should be awake and watching the little'uns," Rain says. "I don't care what time it is."
"I was awake a moment ago. And besides..." Oat gently pulls the kit she knocked over to her side, looking at you warily. "It's usually safe here."
Rain sighs tiredly and motions at you. "You go on and say hi."
Thanks...Rain, right?
Are we here at a bad time?
We can wait if she's sleeping.
Go inside.
