As a native South African i fail to see how anything on here is racist.
Anyway, i really wish i could help you learn Afrikaans, but sadly i dont know how to read or write it. My native language is English. It is compulsory to learn Afrikaans in South Africa to a high standard. Unfortunately, i moved to New Zealand before i had to the chance to learn to read and write it. I am however fluent in it orally. I managed to pick it up as a young child (since i went to an English school, you start learning it when you are in Grade 2, which is when you are 8 years of age. I left South Africa half way in Grade 1).
My only suggestion would be looking up songs or interviews in Afrikaans. There is a recent movie in Afrikaans, called, Ballade vir 'n Enkeling, it has English subtitles which will help you follow the story, also because you speak Dutch you could try watching it without subtitles. I really enjoyed the movie. Made me think of home.
PM me if you would like a few links to some Afrikaans songs, lesson and stuff
Also, the only time i ever use Afrikaans is in public when i dont want anyone to know what i am talking about. We never speak it at home. I have a very good friend who has the same back ground as me, and we speak Afrikaans almost exclusively in public (mainly in clubs/pubs). Its very handy to have a second language lol especially in a country where not many people speak it
It is a great language! So many hilarious expressions that when translated to English, doesnt sound as good. We use expressions like that on a daily basis.
