"Seems like nobody put their lids on right today," Jay says, with the slightest edge to her voice that tells you she's suspicious of you. "Come here."

You crawl your way out from under the dumpster, resisting a sigh when the rain hits you again. "Then you can probably guess why I'm foodless."

"Not that it matters much to me," she says. "I'm not interested in garbage."

You pause and look at her. "Then wh-"

"Here's the deal, kid." She motions with her tail and leads you over to the tree, talking while you find a dry spot to sit. "I didn't expect a crippled outsider to pay his debts, especially on garbage day. I was prepared to hunt you down the minute you didn't come through, and I never had to. That's impressive even if you lived here. But you couldn't have predicted this storm, and neither could we, and now nothing in this city is edible. So this is what we're gunna do."

She sits down and look you right in the eye. Her friends are standing off to the side, and all of them are watching you.

"We got some friends on the outskirts of town, close to where you're leaving. I gave them a description of you and they sent someone to scope you out."

"That'd explain that weird cat I met," you mutter to yourself.

"They're gunna intercept you on the road," Jay continues. "And you are gunna give your final payment to them. They'll bring it back to us. You've got until midnight before they gotta meet us. Doesn't matter what it is, though meat's preferred. That sound doable?"
