The files spill out before you, far too much information for you to process in one sitting. The list of over a dozen colonies, billions of colonials, who have all just effectively disappeared, juts out at you in particular. You swipe through the information, trying to absorb as much as you can before you go and meet with the ambassador. You've had access to them for about a week now, not nearly enough time to process just how many have been lost. Its a miracle this hasn't got out yet; if the media knew just how many colonies have been lost, the public would be in panic.

No wonder everyone's been so hush hush about your assignment. Its more than just human colonies; the prilgun have been particularly badly hit, having lost twelve colonies already. There's no particular pattern that you can discern. What's really troubling is the number of investigations that have been sent. Unity alone has lost three crews, and its not just the humans who have been trying to find out what's going on. What, you wonder, makes you superiors think the Bogoria will fare any better?

A voice interrupts your increasingly morbid thoughts. You close the files and lean back in your chair to listen to Aviator Evan's announcement.

"Commander. We're waiting for a space to dock. The Hub seems busier than usual. It could be a while." You let out a frustrated sigh and thank him. You thought you'd left traffic behind you when you left Earth, but it seems that congestion is a universal terror.

You look back at the computer for a moment before deciding that cramming before the talk will hinder more than help. It'd be better to distract yourself from what's to come. Getting the doctor or you second-in-command's advice might be beneficial, or it might be a good idea to check in on your new pilot to see how long he thinks it will be. You do also have a large alien who you know next to nothing about on board.

Go talk to XO Hamilton.
Go talk to Dr Huan.
Go talk to Aviator Evans.
Go talk to LtCdr Agrix.

I'll talk to Agrix. Might as well get to know exactly who this guy is.

I ponder for a bit, then decide to go and talk to Aviator Evans.

1: Huan
2: Agrix
3: Agrix
4: Evans
5: Agrix

Roll says: 5, Agrix.

It’s probably best to get to know everyone on your ship. The raksi has been keeping to himself for the week he’s been on board, apparently aware of how unsettling his presence is for the crew. So far the malcontent has been limited to muttering in the mess room, but most of the people under your command have never served with aliens before, and you’re concerned into what that unhappiness will evolve into.

You find the Lieutenant-Commander at the edge of the ship, looking out through a window at the silver form of the Hub. He hears you approaching, and turns to offer you what you assume is a raski salute, though it could just as easily be an obscene gesture. You’re not particularly fluent in either Raski slang or military jargon. You gesture for him to relax, and he turns back slightly to look out at the window again.

“I’ve never been to the Hub.” The translator gives him the usual overly gruff voice. It occurs to you with a rush of guilt that you haven’t actually heard him say more than a couple of words before, having been so busy with adjusting to your new position. “It’s not as big as I thought it would be.”

You can’t say the same for him. You’re not particularly short, but Agrix dwarfs you by almost two heads. You note absently that part of his left horn is missing.

“I’ve never been before either,” you tell him, unsure where he means for this conversation to go. Agrix bares his teeth in what he probably thinks is a smile, and you smile back despite the way your eyes are fixed to the massive fangs.

Well. This is awkward.

“Commander. You’re not here to discuss our pasts I’m sure. What can I do for you?”

“Actually, you’re not wrong. There’s some things I’d like to ask you, if that’s alright.”

[For INVESTIGATIONS, players may choose three questions.]

INVESTIGATION

“Where were you born?”
“Why are you here?”
“How long have you been in service?”
“How are you finding the Bogoria?
“Tell me about the Raski’s military.”
“What do you know about the mission?”
“What are your talents and skills like?”

I don't intend to be too invasive. I've only just met the guy after all. I ask, “How are you finding the Bogoria?”, “Why are you here?”, and “What do you know about the mission?”
