every time i duplicate the shade tail's layer, move it down, and change it to "normal" then lock alpha, it turns all white and the lineart is messed up... how do i fix it

Well, it's a little hard. Just colour it in like that, or don't do it at all, not using lock alpha to colour it in. But if you do colour it in like that, my charrie Creek is an example. She's in my gallery, one of the first pages. (they're all first pages, actually)
