You're too tired to go anywhere else for right now. You make a token effort to find water, which leaves you drinking out of a small puddle by a drain (yuck), and flop over only a few dozen fox-lengths away from the store. The ground is hard, cold, and you can hear the faintest rolling thunder which tells you a storm is headed your way. Fantastic.

Your dreams are scattered and forgettable. You try to chase the ideas and thoughts they bring up, but as soon as you touch them, they turn into mist and vanish. The whole time, two narrowed eyes, malicious and crafty, watch you like you're a naked bird in a hole. You realize you're trying to escape them instead of follow your thoughts. You can hear a heart-freezing purr that rings in your ears and-

HONK HONK

You're up and running for your life before your eyes open. Your front feet trip over themselves and you crash into the ground, sliding. You jump up immediately, panting in terror.

Oh, stupid you. You had slept where the cars drive around to the back of the grocery store. The car - a massive truck - is already slowly driving away from you.

"Well," you say aloud, trying to calm yourself. "At least I didn't lose another leg."

You look up at the sky to gauge the time. You mutter a word Robincloud would strike you for when you realize you barely slept half an hour. You growl an even worse word when you hear paw-steps heading right for you.

"You've got quite a mouth on you, kiddo," says a voice.

You whip around immediately. "Charlie!"

"Thank your lucky stars my mother ain't here," she says, affectionately bopping you on the head with her tail. "She used to make me clean out my mouth with drain-water any time I swore around her."
