Can't use oekaki with chrome? Possible solution!

Postby Calix » Tue Sep 29, 2015 4:06 am

Hi! So recently chrome stopped allowing plugins that utilize npapi, due to it having some potential security issues. This includes Java, which means the oekaki no longer works on chrome! I know a lot of you have issues with this.
For now, using firefox will work, but firefox will also be disabling npapi in a few months. Internet explorer is also an option, but...let's be honest, who wants to use internet explorer? :B

So, I present a possible solution for you guys! I found an extension for chrome called 'IE Tab'. This essentially lets you open a tab of internet explorer within chrome, and gives you an option on your right click menu to open a link in this internet explorer tab. This means you'll be able to use the oekaki without needing to leave chrome!

Here's a link to the extension!

Note that you'll need to reinstall jtablet within your internet explorer tab. And internet explorer is generally optimized a lot worse and the oekaki is a bit laggy because of that, but I hope I can help some people out with this! I've seen quite a few people unable to use the oekaki after the chrome update.

(also, sorry if this is the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to put it :B )

It should still work for IE, but you may need to download java specifically for IE.

That's likely due to some kind of security you have installed, whether it be your browser's built in security wall or an anti virus. Sometimes you need to go into the settings and whitelist certain sites that use java.

i think this topic is slightly unnecessary to post when there's already something about it here.
i haven't heard much of firefox disabling java, but it seems possible. and yeah, internet explorer has pretty crappy quality.

Yep, See here.
Mozilla intends to remove support for most NPAPI plugins in Firefox by the end of 2016.

I figured it was fine since I'm offering a unique suggestion that nobody else seemed to know of, and that thread seems to be for questions more than answers. Also, the main post is completely outdated and doesn't offer any solutions that will actually work.
Also, about firefox, see above.
