If you love games like Nintendogs or Pixel Petz, let’s take a time machine back to where it all began. In 1995, long before Tamagotchis hit the scene, the Petz franchise introduced the idea of virtual pets to the world. Believe it or not, Petz wasn’t just about adorable animals. It helped launch creative hobbies like website design and HTML coding for tons of fans! Fun fact: Tess and Nick, the creators of Chicken Smoothie (yep, this very Chicken Smoothie), were both major players in the Petz community before starting CS. Even now, some of the tools Nick created are still being used by Petz fans. And guess what? 30 years later, this classic game still has a thriving community keeping the nostalgia alive! The best part is that unlike most games these days, Petz is 100% free. No ads, no paywalls, no microtransactions. Just 100% pure fun. The Petz community may be small, but it’s super welcoming to both new and returning players, so you’ll feel right at home.

Ready to dive into a world of limitless possibilities? Petz 4 gives you 20 breeds of Catz and Dogz to choose from, and you can adopt as many as you want! But here’s the catch—if you don’t give your petz enough love and attention, they might pack their bags (or tails 🐕🐈) and run away! Don’t worry, though—stay connected with your petz, and they’ll become your lifelong companions.

Once your petz are all grown up, you can breed them to create one-of-a-kind mixed breeds. The game’s genetics system is seriously addictive, with thousands of unique combinations to discover. From fur patterns to eye colors and body shapes, breeding petz is like crafting your very own masterpiece! Some mixed breeds might even surprise you—your Dalmatian mix might look like a Sheepdog, and your Calico mix might take on totally unexpected traits.

Just keep in mind: some hyper-realistic breedz might look cool, but they can act a bit funky in motion. Still, they’re a big hit in Petz shows!

Love a good competition? Petz shows are where it’s at!
Pose Shows: Think of these like the Westminster Dog Show for Petz. Enter your perfectly posed pets to win points and rise in the Petz Kennel Club (PKC) rankings. Not ready for the big leagues? Forums are perfect for beginners, and the community is always happy to help you learn the ropes—or even pose your petz for you in exchange for something cool!
Trick Shows: Teach your petz up to 36 different tricks and enter them in Trick or Obedience competitions. You can also try fun events like Ultimate Frisbee, Agility, and even Schutzhund!

The Petz series has multiple game versions available but the most universally used, of all, is Petz4 as it allows the animals adopted in this game to be used across all versions. Unfortunately, Petz4 is not longer available to buy from most retailers. Luckily the producer of the game, Ubisoft, made a patch that turns the demo version of the game into a free and fully functional version of the game so everyone can enjoy the game, even over 20 years after if first came out.

Q: Is downloading this version of Petz 4 legal?
A: Absolutely! Ubisoft created and distributed the patch themselves, so playing this version is perfectly legitimate.

Q: I’m nervous about downloading files online. Is it safe?
A: Totally understandable! The file linked here has been personally scanned and repackaged to ensure it’s virus-free. No shady downloads—just classic fun.

Q: Can I still buy the game?
A: Yes! You can find copies on sites like Amazon and eBay. But keep in mind, the older versions don’t support cross-game pet trading, which is a big feature in Petz 4.

So you've downloaded the game and adopted your first pets. The next step is to join the community. Spread across multiple sites and forums it can be a little difficult to navigate at first. The Petz Community spreads themselves across three main site types.

Forum sites, which are main hubs of activity. Everything from chatting and adoptions to shows can be found on forum sites, and they are a great place to get to know others within the community.

Sales sites, these sites work as a Bazaar, where you can make your own shop and purchse and sell everything from Petz you bred to special one of a kind clothing items.

Crew sites, these are a special type of website that users make to show off the petz they have collected or awards they have won. Many host adoptions on their crew sites and even have unique downloads and games on them. Some Crew Sites are over 10 years old and are still active!




The RKC Petz Forum
RKC has been around for years and has an established and active userbase. It is a great place to adopt a new pet, meet some new friends or join your first show at. The vast and experienced userbase also makes it a great go-to place if you have questions about hexing or are looking for a specific breedfile.

Whiskerwick
Whiskerwick is hands down my favorite site. Chat, adopt, show, partake in auctions for one of a kind petz or even open a shop. A unique currency system on the site (Bones) makes it easy to get started, you even get bones just for posting in the introductions forum! This is a great site to start at and everyone is really welcoming of newcomers!

Seeing Stars
Dogz and Catz too basic for you? This is a forum all about raising and showing Horsez and Poniez! Adoptions are regularily hosted her aswell so if you are wanting to try any Horse related this is the place to go!

Dukes Group
This forum is dedicated to only playing with a small amount of petz at one time. There is a large roleplay aspect to raising your petz on this forum so if this appeals to you it's the place to be. Shows, contests, and pet playdates are a regular occurrence in Dukes Group and always a lot of fun.
