Well, my family didn't laugh. My mother thought my writing was pretty good. My father says so as well. And my brother... well, he's never read or heard my writing, and I'm not going to show him
But honestly? I don't believe them xD

That is why I am turning to a different style of wrinting. Fan Fiction/Direct Realistic. Both are very awe-inspiring, but both are rarely used.

I say that's a myth. Except if you mean only on CS. Fanfiction is VERY widely spread. There are SO many fanfiction communities out there... you'd be surprised xD

You barely have to put any thought into it.

That's a myth as well. You always have to put much thought into writing, no matter what you write. That is, if you want your writing to be good, and not the next 08/15 story. Writing well IS work.

And for me, it's actually harder to write fanfiction, because there are so many things you have to consider. And you have to notice even the little details about the characters and the world and society they inhibit. The way the characters dress, talk, behave, think, feel. The way they interact with other characters and objects, the rules and regulations of their world (that's what many Harry Potter fanfiction writers fail to consider. A mistake (my favourite) that many of these writers make is that people can suddenly apparate to and from inside of Hogwarts, even though the impossibility of that is EXPLICITLY stated in the books).
Those details make for a rich, strong story.
And I kind of have a big inferiority complex and don't want to screw up characters that someone else created. If they're my own ones, I can't insult anyone but myself *lol*

Aaand, I'd like to join.

Actually, the books I like to read differ a GREAT deal from the fanfictions and stories I like to read on the net. I love classics like To kill a mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet, Brave New World... (okay, I also sometimes read things like Harry Potter or the Discworld novels or historical fiction) but in fanfictions, I like to read about relationships (as in family, siblings, friends, lovers), and I like romance (though I'm VERY picky in that aspect - read too much, and WAY too much was utter crap, or just plain boring).
What I like to write is similar to what I like to read on the net. Relationships, romance - but I like my romances to have a plot that's not a simple "Will hero get heroine and will they end up happy together or not?" kind of thing (though if that's done well, I like to read it).
I'm not saying I'm writing perfectly... I'm just trying to give it my best (though I'm still not where I'd like to be).

Yeah... I know I'm strange.

Rolly-Chan, everyone has their own defenition of something. Everyone has their ideas. Rolly-Chan, everyone has a right to these things. And to my writing, what you state is an opinion in a world of facts. I appreciate your concern about "myths", but I don't see things the way you do. Another thing, don't take other ideas and defentions ands say their wrong, because everyone has a right to believe they right. Got it? Please respect other peoples form, and idea of writing.

Thank you.

But I do agree that people should put thought into character romances when they right FFics. Its a mistake that some may find unkind.

Uhm, no. It's a fact that if you don't put much thought into your stories, they turn out bad. That's not an opinion. You'll end up with flat characters, an intangible world and an unrelated plot that goes nowhere.
I'm not saying you have to plan every tiny little detail. But if you want to have strong characters that seem to live, and a world your readers can sink into, and a plot that just forces your readers to keep on reading even if they should have gone to bed long ago, you'll need to do a bit of work. Even with fanfiction. Because, honestly, who wants to read a fanfic about his/her favourite character in which said character could be replaced with Bob Vanilla and it wouldn't make any difference besides his looks? And if you don't know the world your story is set in, you won't be able to describe it in a way that will let your readers have a taste of it. Because if you can't envision it properly, how should your readers be able to?
And... I didn't say you CAN'T write without much thought... I just said that good stories require thought.
You don't have to write good stories, though. If you're happy with just typing away and never getting better, that's okay too.
I just thought that if writing is your hobby, you'd like to be good at it... and being good at something always requires work.

I didn't mean to offend you, by the way. I'm sorry if it sounded rude. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "myth"...

Indian, don't start a fight! Rolly isn't trying to be rude. Rolly, I don't really think Indian wanted a reply, and you really didn't have to reply to her post. Neither of you are right or wrong, just don't start a fight! I don't want this topic to get locked.

Favorite kind of book to write: Usually fantasy, sometimes sci-fi, usually with some romance in there. On rare occasions, I venture into other genres as well. And sometimes I write things that are completely unclassified. Maybe Junk. Is there a Junk genre? If not, there should be.

Welcome Rolly-chan

That's why I apologized. I didn't have the feeling that we were fighting, though. Did you, Indian Wolf?
It wasn't about who's right and who's wrong. I actually don't understand why everyone is so freaked out if there are different views o_O No one was insulted and the posts are all civil. It was just a little misunderstanding (on both parts, I guess). So relax. (And thanks for the welcome).

I even added "xD" smileys to my first post... but that didn't seem to convey that I'm no trying to be rude. I guess I'll need to work on my phrasing style.

@Indian Wolf: I guess I just wrote it down the wrong way. I didn't want to suggest that you absolutely must think more about your stories. I only wanted to say that writing well requires effort, the same as drawing well or being good at football (sometimes I manage to circle around my point for a while... got that from my mother). If that's not what you intend to do with fanfictions, I'm kind of completely off the track *lol*

(And the second longer part only concerns me. For other people, fanfictions are the easier to write option. That part was just about why it's harder for me. In original fiction, I can create everything myself, so I know my world and my characters... for fanfictions, I have to observe precisely first. Sometimes I like observing x3)
And I need to stop using so many brackets...

Aaaand, to lighten the mood!
Has anybody got any piece of work to share? Maybe something they are working on?
I'd love to see what you guy's are all creating at the moment :)

EDIT: Actually, I have something I just found that has been stored on my computer for a couple of years now, amazing how things get lost on technology! XD
Started this when I was in Year 8 (Grade 7 or is it 9?) *shrugs* When I was 12

The woods were quiet and smelt of new grass and new leaves. I could tell that my mother was afraid of something, but I could not tell what. There was no scent of wolves, no sign of any danger at all.
I like this place, it is calm; no one shouts. The horses are all content, the grass is plentiful – and my mother is always happy. Though now, I can feel a touch of tense in the air around my mother and I. The other mares don’t seem to notice anything different from our daily routine, but I can tell something is up, except I can’t pick just what exactly.
It is disturbing when my mother is restless and ready to take flight at the sound of a snapped twig, and she passes on this edginess to me.
