how about that Adrian thing? you know, the king of the story?

His fingers traced the embroidery of his vest, pride welling up in his chest as he thought about what each stitch meant to him. Adrian was told he was smart, to show it his father made sure a new florezied flower was stitched on. Pride however, is fleeting and the boy soon came to understand his father didn’t have the vest covered in flowers as a reward, but so his father could gloat about the inherited brains. Adrian gripped his vest and tore it away from himself, felling sour and irritated.

“Dear, you will tear it after the seamstress worked so hard to add another florezied.” Stricken was his mother’s tone.

“It’s an easy fix, mother.” He coldly replied, having nearly forgot of her presence.

“It seems like an easy fix to you, because you know not how to sew. You would think otherwise had you been the one to make your own clothes. Not to mention just because something is an easy to fix, doesn't make it okay to ruin in the first place.” She chided.

The mother didn’t spend much time with her children, she was far from maternal. Someone took care of her children the day each was born, but she still loved them like any mother would. As they got older, she felt she needed to bond with them somehow, and so she took to choosing their clothing for special advents.

Adrian was the one who hated this practice of his mothers the least. Kyran would throw a fit each and every time, sneaking out of the window or wearing something else as soon as his mother left the room. But Adrian would confide in his mother carefully, not to feel better-he could do that himself- but so she would have something to talk about with the other ladies and duchess, and most of all, his father.

His mother would go to her husband and explain what she knew, and the king would do something about it in his own way.

If Adrian wanted new books, he would tell his mother they were falling apart because he uses them so much in his study but it was okay, because they were much too childish for him. Days later, his father would tell him to pick a book from his library.

His father would tell him 'no' to anything he asked for to his face, but not his mother. His mother was the way to get things.

Everyone tried to avoid spoiling him, but the boy was smart enough to see a way to get what he wanted when he saw it. Until he met William Silvrin at the age of twelve, that is. William wasn’t one to give anything up without understanding.

Adrian and William spent their winters together since they were thirteen, but when William was fifteen he came to stay. Having found no way to get anything out of William without owing anything in return- as William was also a smart boy and perhaps more cunning- he decided he would make him an ally instead.
It was quite nice, having someone to explain his feelings to. His mother would press his father to do something about it and that would make more trouble. The maids would fuss over him and the tutors would brand him insane. William however understood. William was loyal and so he was loyal to him. They didn’t judge each other, they only reasoned with each other if one was doing a wrong. It was perhaps the only friendship he did and would ever have with someone outside of family.

Until years down the road he had to prepare for his kingship. Stresses grew and burdens gained weight as he studied hard. Kyran had been able to learn his task easy, but he was to be a general. But Adrian, now he had to learn politics and currency, laws that could be changed and those that couldn’t. He had to learn from history and worst of all, his father. Adrian and William wanted a better kingdom for their future children and nieces and nephews, and they set out together to devise a plan for it.

When nothing worked, and everything had too many flaws, he was nearing a breaking point mentally, he found a little piece of information he could make use of. He wanted his kingdom to be great, he wanted to be kind to his people. He never said anything about the other kingdoms. Quickly he researched the current kings and heirs and devised a new plan, one centering on his father’s journal. His father was a mad man and wrote down his thoughts to keep them from spilling from his mouth. His thoughts, though scattered had many clues and tricks it would take for Adrian plans to work.
