"Ain't like that here," Charlie says.

"I figured," you mumble.

"Here, they're not gunna give you a second chance. Which is a real pain, because sometimes you can't tell where their turf ends and begins." Charlie starts heading down towards a darker part of the streets. "I'm guessing you spray to mark your territory?"

"Yeah." You hop after her. "But you can't smell it here, right?"

"Right. But there's some indicators if you're being very watchful. If you see any wet marks on the walls, or a lack of cats walking around in certain places, that might be your only hint that spot's claimed. Areas with scratch marks, or litter. Even droppings, if they're real brazen."

"As border markers?" you say, wrinkling your nose.

"Yep." Charlie abruptly stops and looks at you. "Now you're gunna take the lead."

You blink in surprise. "Why?"

"I want you to go over each alley and decide whether it's claimed for or not using observation. Think you can handle that?"
