Roll says... 4: Kits and queens.
"Well, the kits and queens take priority, when times are hard," you say. "The elders eat second, and then-"
"You got multiple queens where you're from?" Charlie looks at you in surprise. "Just in one little group?"
"Oh, they're not queens like you," you say quickly. "Queens are mothers back home. Not...leaders, or whatever it means for you."
"I'm not the leader around here, and I'll never be a mother," Charlie says. "When I say 'queen', I mean I earned my spot as the most famous cat in town. No one touches me, no one touches my friends, and everyone listens to me when I speak. Anyway." She motions with her tail. "Go on."
"...Well, since we're a group, we need to take care of our future and our past before our present." You lift your head proudly. "Our future warriors are nourished, and the warriors that fed us when we were kits are honored before we consider ourselves."
"That's a weird system, kid." Charlie tilts her head. "Shouldn't the ones hunting be fed first?"
"Of course not!" You look at her in shock. "If we just only looked out for ourselves, why would anyone want to take care of us as elders? And the elders that took care of us would have worked all their lives for nothing! The strength of the Clan is more than just a few warriors, it's everyone who comes before and after."
"Clan, huh..." Charlie's eye fades a little, like she's in deep contemplation. "All or nothing, then?"
"Unite or die," you say, a little fiercely. "That's the warrior way."
Willpower +1.
Charlie gazes at you for a long moment. It's impossible to tell what she's thinking, so you settle for staring back. There's half a minute of silence before she looks away and says, "Whatever floats your boat, I suppose."
You don't respond.
Finally, dusk arrives. The two of you bid the old tom farewell. You make sure to thank him for his graciousness before jumping over the fence. Charlie starts leading you down the road to a bustling part of the city, where twolegs gather in hordes and squawk at each other. You still don't like them, but you keep what Charlie said in mind.
"You'll start recognizing restaurants by yourself," Charlie is saying as you round a corner behind a building. "They're always lit up, full of humans, and they've got the biggest trash cans outside. See that big green thing? That's a waste container. They're like the grandaddies of the trash cans. If you end up in one of those, there's no guarantee that you'll get out again, so stick with the small stuff if you can."
You nod, memorizing everything.
"Now, here, the humans like to sneak us some food." She jumps up onto a trash can, which is leaned against a long, rickety table. Bowls line the edge against the wall. "Luckily, you've got it easy. They'll give you anything you want in a heartbeat."
Because I'm missing a leg?
Because I'm young?
Because I'm new?
Why is that?
Say nothing.
