The bright sun had fianlly reached a high enough point to shine through the curtains Espella had carefully drawn tightly shut the night before. No matter how hard I try, I can't sleep past this time every day. Even from under her covers the sun was quite obviously too bright to be real. Back in Espella's home, the sun was never bright enough to shine through her curtains. Then again, her curtains at home were lined with the purpose of blocking out the sunlight.
The sound of steps running across the floor below her bedroom set Espella's ears upright. It was obviously Virva come to bug her about something she hadn't done yet. Virva's problem, Espella had decided long ago, was that she worried too much. Things would always happen when they needed to. Espella never saw the reason to sign a form right away if she could leave it for a few days and then send it. Meetings were the worst for her poor comrade however. The thought of meetings stirred a memory in her groggy, sleep-laden mind, but before anything could come to fruition in that empty, slow cavernous cavity in her head, Virva's light knocking and question , which had a certain feeling of urgency to it, chased the thought away. "Of course I'm up. You know I love waking up early." Her sarcastic voice was barely loud enough to travel across the room so Espella wasn't even sure that the guild's first in command had heard her comment. Why would Virva rush her in the mornings? Espella's friend knew full well getting up before noon was NOT her forte. There must be an awfully important meeting or something for this to be happening. Wait a minute... Meeting?! With her memory finally up to something more than a dead standstill, the dragon slayer recalled there was a meeting between the major guilds scheduled for that morning. How much time did they have before it started?
Not more than a minute passed before Espella had pulled her on her clothes, which she had lain out the night before in case such a problem arose from infamous love of sleep. "You know, you could have woken me up earlier!" The irritation in her voice was more directed at herself than her best friend who had inevitably tried to wake Espella multiple times to no avail. She pulled the door open and stood face to face with the guild master of The Valkyries and her best friend, Virva.
