Joke watched Mortimer wash the blood off the dog, wondering if the animal was still in pain. Losing interest quickly, Joke looked around to see how far into the woods they were. He approached the mill wearily, putting his hand to the cold, stone wall. "Wonder how long this has been abandoned for..." He muttered to himself as he continued to explore.

Ezra shook his head. "Alex, you're not listening to me. I'm telling you there may be a way for that to happen - for you not to go back to your parents once you leave St. Auron's. But you have to swear to me to leave St. Auron's a new person - you have to swear to me you will honestly try to make yourself better for the rest of your life."
When Mortimer had washed the blood away, he stopped to pay attention to the dog. Its chest was heaving and its eyes half-closed, but it was alive. If not in pain. Not knowing what else to do, Mortimer tore off his shirt, wrapping the already bloodied cloth around the Doberman's chest and binding it as comfortably as possible. Mortimer shivered in the cool air that wafted through the trees without his shirt, but the dog seemed to be better for it. Unwilling to leave it alone by the stream, Mortimer picked it up again, carrying it towards where Joke was exploring the mill. He jerked his head silently towards the rotted side door and walked up to it, the large alpha weighing his slight form down. With a grunt, Mortimer kicked out at the door, almost knocking himself backwards, but he succeeded in making a gap wide enough for them all to step through. Mortimer went in first, blinking as his eyes adjusted to the dark.

Joke frowned, hesitantly following Mortimer into the mill. He came to a halt, his expression blank as he looked around, letting his own eyes adjust to the lack of light. "So... what now?" He asked, breaking the silence. It made him nervous, being in such a seemingly old building; he expected it to collapse around him at any moment.

Ezra only nodded. "I'll hold you to that," he said. There was a lapse of silence for several moments while Ezra only blinked back at Alex. "You do understand what you just promised?" Ezra asked, a little wary. Perhaps he hadn't been clear.
Mortimer shrugged, stepping over debris to the middle of the room and placing the wounded dog down on the grimy floor. "Fire?" Mortimer suggested quietly. In such a small building, he might have been worried about it catching the whole place ablaze, but the mill was so wet with mildew and mold, it was unlikely. And inside, a blaze wouldn't be easily seen either. Mortimer instinctively began to think of all the things they would have to do to make the night, until he remembered that mattered little for him. Dead. But he needed to protect and provide for the Doberman. Mortimer gestured towards himself. "Water," he whispered, waving a hand at Joke in turn. "Fire." If they could get a fire going, maybe they could boil some water. If only they had a pot. Without waiting for an answer, Mortimer began to forage through the debris and collapsed mill equipment for things to be scavenged.

Joke nodded, setting off to find some dry wood. It wasn't long before he tapped Mortimer on the shoulder. "Um... what's needed to make a fire, besides wood?" He asked, a little embarrassed. He didn't know anything useful when it came to survival skills, and nobody had ever spoken to him long enough for it to be mentioned in a conversation. He glanced down at the Doberman, hoping it was feeling a little better now. He made a mental promise to find someone to help the dog once he and Mortimer were far away from St. Auron's.

Mortimer started when he was tapped, blinking blankly at Joke for some unresponsive seconds. "Stones," he said finally. At least, he thought so. Mortimer had seen guys like on the Discovery channel striking rocks against one another to make a spark. Thinking now, Mortimer realized you needed tinder too. "Leaves." Mortimer nodded to conclude this thought and turned back to his scavenging. None of the bits of fallen apart machinery were in the shape Mortimer wanted - something relatively bowl-like. Most everything was rusted and rotted, and additionally sharp, though Mortimer didn't feel it when his palms were pierced by corroded bits of wood or metal. By the time Mortimer happened across a cracked fixture like a spool, except with a bottom, his hands were riddled with splinters. He dragged the rather large cyllinder out of the debris and to the center of the room, pausing to check on how the Doberman was doing. The dog appeared to be sleeping now, if not painfully, and Mortimer supposed it was just as well, but it made him afraid. What if the dog fell into the Darkness too?

((Dammit, I love Mortimer so much, it's freaking me out! <3 I seriously want to hug him.
I need to draw him, but he'd end up looking like a complete creep o.O
And... I have no idea what to write. I can't even think of a start WORD, let alone a paragraph.))

{Lol, I find it so funny that you love Mortimer so. XD I'm sure you'd do awesome drawing him. I'm having such an artist's fail recently; I tore up two sketches just today. But no problem. ^_^ Write whenever the cursed block of writing departs.}
