Roll says... 1: Eat the food.
You send a silent apology to your ancestors as you dig in. Once you get past the smell, the stuff is delicious, and it takes all of your willpower to not eat quickly.
Experience +1.
By the time you finish, the last twoleg has left the strange den. You're about to groom yourself when Charlie says, "Alright, kid, you ready?"
You look up at her. "Ready?"
"To leave." She sits up straight. It's not just her belly that makes her huge - her shoulders are broader than any warrior you've ever seen in your life. "We've had a good stay for bed and breakfast, but now it's time to leave."
Someone below you groans. "Oh, come on, Charlie, again?"
"Every time you do this, we all pay for it," a pretty sand-brown molly says across the way.
"Yeah, they got on the triple locks, Charlie," someone else adds. You can't see them. "You ain't gettin' out even if you try."
Scattered voices start up, all with disapproval or irritation.
"C'mon, Charlie, just stay for once..."
"You're gunna get little Frankie in trouble again, he did your lock..."
"You always break something..."
"Hush, the lot of you," Charlie says. Even though her voice is as friendly as ever, everyone immediately goes silent. She turns to you and says, "Alright, kiddo, here's what we're gunna do. You see that jangle of wire at the door of your cage?"
You blink. "I have no idea what any of that means."
"Boy, you are feral." Charlie lifts a paw, reaching inside your cage to point. "That bit of work right there."
You turn to look, and see a block of thick silver...'wire'. Now that you actually look at your bramble nest, you can see that a part of it is separated from the rest, like it's supposed to swing open.
"They never put you first timers in the cages like mine." She motions to where hers would be, but you can't see it. "It's got a metal sheet on this side so I can't pull it open myself. I'm gunna help you break out, but then you gotta help me break out." She sounds amused, but her eye is narrowed coldly. "Once in a while you kids try to escape without me. I'm the only one who knows exactly how to get those doors open, so it never works."
"And then they got you on their backs," a cat says.
Charlie grins. Her teeth are oddly large for a cat. "You know it. Ain't no one that gets away from me."
Part of you balks at the idea of obeying the orders a rogue like this, especially with the fairly overt threat she just gave you. Loners are never to be trusted, you know that. But she's your only way out of here.
Tell me what to do.
Let me try to figure it out first.
I don't have any reason to listen to a loner.
You don't scare me.
Say nothing.
