Roll says... 3: With a group.
"I, uh...I live with a group," you mutter cautiously. It's not a complete lie, but you're not giving anything special away. She probably lives with a group too.
Charisma +1.
"Good group, bad group...?" Charlie is watching you, you can feel it. You briefly wonder why she doesn't look away like you.
"Good group." Your claws dig into the soft nest. "The best group."
"Well, you aren't starving, or all banged up like I am. I can buy that."
"It's the truth," you say quietly. "I just want to get back to them as soon as possible."
"I know you do," Charlie says. Her voice, in this moment, reminds you of your mother. "We'll get you there."
Despite her order, you look up at her. For how soft her tone was, her eye has a strangely fierce glint to it. She just grins at you and waves her stubby tail.
Quiet. Right.
...
The day passes slowly. You sleep in and out, sometimes watching the twolegs and the poor animals they're messing with. They do some quite invasive things to a few of them, prying open their eyes and shining a light, or sticking long silver thorns into their ears and...elsewhere. You notice that the cat or dog they do it to always gets some weird looking edible thing right afterwards, followed by a lot of cooing and cheery, high-pitched sounds that make your skin crawl. The animals don't seem to mind. The dogs get way more excited about it than the cats.
A few times, someone is put in the nest behind you. They quiver at the sight of you and Charlie, or peer at your leg curiously. You don't speak to any of them. They don't seem interested in conversation, anyway.
Finally, the place starts to go dark, and the twolegs put two metal things Charlie calls "bowls" into every bramble nest. One has water (surprisingly delicious, despite what you've been told) and the other has off-smelling wet stuff that sort of reminds you of the fish you and your friends would sometimes catch.
"I don't know if I should eat this," you say.
"Wh'not?" Charlie's mouth is full.
"I'm a C- my group has rules about this stuff."
She swallows her mouthful and looks at you seriously. "Kiddo, you're not with your group right now. Where else are you going to get food right now? You didn't have a problem drinking the water."
"That's different..." But you stare down at the food. You are hungry.
Eat the food.
Don't touch it.
