Hmm, unagi is the Japanese word for freshwater eel, and is a common ingredient used in Japanese dishes. Just thought I'd throw this out there, if no one else has beat me to it.

I have another thing to add to my previous theory:
The pup I suggested above has edited ears (look at the one that is on the right, or the side not facing you - it is shorter then it should be). Pluma's first staff pet has edited ears.
