TYPE OF QUESTION: AP U.S History
YOUR QUESTION: If the American Indians greatly outnumbered the European colonists, how did the Europeans come to dominate the continent?

I already finished the question, but I felt like my answers were very repetitive (they had the machinery, diseases that killed the Natives, strategic battle plans). If there is anything else that would strengthen my argument, that would greatly help <3 Thank you so much for this thread. It'll be very helpful for when the school year comes.

I remember something similar to this.. hmm..

Yes, I know that illnesses and diseases took down 90 percent of the Native population, and as well as better, heavy machinary than the Natives- but I'm not exactly sure how they did it.

I'm so sorry, I missed yours because my reply box wouldn't go any further :'( Thank you for your help though ^^

a few more things you may find helpful:

- The Europeans had children with the Native Americans, which brought more of them (and the spread of STDs), because as you probably know, over time the genetic code will change closer and closer to European, if there is one involved.
- They often basically kicked them out of their territory (Trail of Tears, for example), where many died on the journey or were killed when refusing to leave.
- There were lots of colonists, and more continued to come from all over Europe - many pregnant - which eventually is going to out number the Natives. (Kind of obvious but you know) They were also constantly coming in large boats, which increased the amount.

There's many more, but those are just a few I could think of
-

Thank you for the help. I remember the Trail of Tears, but I do believe the question has to stay within the years when Columbus was still exploring it, like the 1400's - late 1500's. But that would help since we're supposed to apply prior knowledge.
Aw man, I totally forgot about the colonists having interracial marriage with the Native women. Thank you for that, that definitely will fill about another quarter of the page of me just basically saying the same thing with different examples and similar wording XDD

You've pretty much got the basics of this question down - there really isn't much else to say. If you feel like you're saying the same things over and over, consider just shortening your answer entirely. c:

Is there a word/paragraph limit on this question? Those are the bane of my existence (besides math hw).

EDIT: Ninja'd by watermelon XD I couldn't think of those off the top of my head, but those are all true.

Oh god, word limits are the worst XD but luckily, it's supposed to be at least 150-200 words, so really I can write until I finish the page (but I am very close to due to saying the same things over and over again). This is on paper, just a thought, if you think I'm typing it. So I'm good on the word limit, but YES. I hated those in English class, don't want those anymore.

Do note that when the Europeans came from Europe, they carried smallpox, but since you already have that down on your list, I am thinking that is mostly it. Because I live in Canada, and don't study US history, I do know that either way, the First Nations did get offered lots of treaties, and so called "signed". This happened in both countries where these treaties were then misscounted for, and left as if it wasn't even signed in the first place. Other than that, heavy machinery, diseases (the Europeans had immunizations to smallpox and the Indians didn't) , and structural knowledge (building to forts, and things..etc) also led the Europeans to sucess in colonizing the continent. The Europeans also had children with the natives, and therefore increasing the population.

Edit: man, you guys are quicker than I thought. Ninja'do x2

Many history ninjas in this thread X) I haven't even thought about the treaties, hmm that's a good thought. And again, thank you for mentioned the mixed children, which I hadn't thought would contribute much to the question.

Sorry I've been inactive, I really tried to figure out the question 'username by me' asked, but for whatever reason I couldn't, even though I've done that before many times. XD (it was a subject I struggled with..) But I honestly couldn't find an answer, so I'm sorry I'm not much of a help there.
