So I'm back from my walk.
UGHHH You want to hear about it?! I don't think I can keep up with these demands. But FINEEE. I'll write the conversation.
Matt: Did you tell Jake the truth?
Me: ... I almost did. I was ready to, but then he stopped me.
Matt: What do you mean?
Every breath and word we spoke became a frosty white cloud as it came out. Winter is so different from all the seasons, so snowy, cold, frosty and whatnot. I don't like it.
Me: He told me not to tell him if it puts my life at risk, which it does. I mean, it's not like I intended to tell all the people I told, it just kinda happened. You figured it out all on your own- which I'm grateful for, makes it easier for me.
Matt: Oh.
He was quiet.
Me: Matt, I think... I think that maybe Liz thought she was protecting you.
Matt: Me? From what? I can handle myself!
Me: Listen, I know last time we were just joking about Christmas with our biological family. But think about the consequences if someone knew you were eighteen, the perfect age to start in this madness. Elizibeth is a direct link to you, and not once has she ever treated you like a mission.
Matt: Did I make a mistake?
Me: You should talk to her about it.
Matt: Hm.
There was a silence between us, mainly because of how little we saw each other. We barely knew what the other was going through, and it was becoming grueling to even talk about.
Me: ... Matt?
Matt: Yeah?
Me: You want... You want to- uh... You know, maybe go on a.. Mission with me?
He flashed me a confused glance.
Matt: a mission? I thought you quit shield.
Me: Yeah.. But I'm a mercanary for hire, so I do some missions on my own time.
Matt: Isn't that illegal?
Me: Not if no one finds out.
Matt: Uh.. Nope. I'm pretty sure that's still illegal.
We were about to walk into a park, but I steered us away when I remembered Amy's warning.
Matt: Why can't we walk through the park?
Me: Because I might be taken into custody.
Matt: Oh. Well... Still. Being a mercanary for hire is illegal.
Me: Oh come on! It'll be fun!
I'm starting to sound like Amy. This isn't healthy. Next I'll be throwing ninja stars, and wondering why people don't constantly carry a weapon.
Matt: Will there be weapons involved? >:D
Me: If we need them...
Matt: ehehehe *rubs hands together*
Me: You know, you creep me out sometimes.
Matt: MWAHAHAHA!
Me: Now you're trying too hard, don't strain yourself.
He laughed.
Matt: Okay, maybe I'll go with you. But... Is it dangerous?
Me: Is that even a serious question?
I smirked, but Matt didn't seem to feel the same way. He planted his eyes firmly to the ground.
Me: Oh come on Matt, I'll be here for you. Plus, I have a great partner.
Matt: Partner?
Me: Yeah, you met her before.
Matt: Oh. Amy. How did...?
He paused and gave me a sideways glance.
Me: She knows everything.
Matt: Ah. That would explain a lot.
He gazed up at the polluted, heavy, and nearly starless sky above.
Although still cold, the temperature was warmer today. It went up 10 degrees, which is why we received rain instead of snow when Jake and I had our moment earlier. I couldn't be more grateful for all the time I had to spend with him. I smiled as I locked my hand into Matthew's- we were nearing the hotel I was staying at.
Matt: You think we'll ever get to where we want to be?
Me: ...
I followed his gaze to the sky.
Me: Maybe. I sometimes like to think that the future is not far. That Every day, every hour, every second that passes... Is somehow intertwined with a happily ever after.
I stopped when we were in front of the door to my hotel.
Me: Can you meet me here late tomorrow morning?
He nodded.
Matt: Nice hotel
I smiled.
Me: Thanks.
I gave him a hug and we went our separate ways.
It was a little exciting to think that Matthew was coming on my mission with me.
A sharp pain shot up my arm to my shoulder and down my spine, I let out a small "agh!" and then shivered.
Weird, right? I mean... Maybe it's just growing pains. I quickly dismissed my thoughts, and went into the hotel. When I reached my room, I saw Amy sitting on her bed with the "you're in trouble, young lady" look.
Amy: Where did you go?
Me: I saw Jake, that's it.
Amy: Oh really? Then, do you care to explain what that is?
I followed her wandering eyes to my hand. I nearly had a heart-attack when I saw a symbol in black just below my knuckles.
A tree. And next to it in a smaller size, were three triangles intertwined.
Me: That wasn't there before!
Amy: Right ._. Because tattoos randomly appear out of nowhere on people all the time.
Me: No, Amy. I didn't get a tattoo.
Amy: You must have! I mean it's there, isn't it?
Me: Amy.
My voice became quiet and strained.
Me: I didn't get a tattoo.
She flashed me a concerned look.
Amy: Then what is that?
Me: I don't know.
Amy: How did you get it?
Me: I don't know
Amy: What do you know then?!
Me: ...
The room may drifted into silence but my thoughts never stopped. Every word, every experience, every thing was being contradicted and checked again and again and again in my mind. But nothing was out of place. Nothing made sense. Nothing makes any sense.
Amy: ... Can you think about anything that may have happened while you were out?
Me: Nothing out of the ordinary. I ran into Heather, then I-
Amy: What? You ran into Heather? Where?
Me: Well, I went on the elevator and it just sort of happened *shrugs*
Amy: ... What... Well, um... What did she say?
I paused, there was concern in her eyes that made my heart swell with emotion.
Me: She asked if I could be friends with her again.
Amy: And what did you say?
I took a shaky breath, forgetting about the tattoo and things around me, and sat next to Amy on her bed. All I saw from there was the tears clouding my eyes as I barely made out my words. It hurt to be betrayed by a friend... Someone I once loved and would've done anything for.
Me: I told her no.
I let out a pitiful cry into my hands as Amy awkwardly handed me a tissue. After blowing my nose and wiping tears from my face with my sleeves, my voice steadied.
Me: I-I- just don't understand! she doesn't understand! You can't just stick a knife in someone, then come back later to try and mend the wound. You've already adjusted to life as it is by then.
Amy nodded sympathetically.
Amy: So... Uh... When we first met I gave you a few glass wounds, that doesn't count right?
I half laughed and met her with a slight smile.
Me: Metaphorical knife wounds only.
She smiled.
Amy: Good, because I'm not ready to stop being friends with you.
I smiled. Amy is my best friend now. And although she's sometimes kooky or odd, that's what makes her perfect
After crying some more, we watched some Doctor Who, ordered room service, then went to bed. We came to a decision while we ate the chocolate mousse, that if anything else suspicious happens like the tattoo, we would do whatever it takes to find out what was happening and why. Weird though, isn't it? A tattoo. Right there, on my left hand... It's definitely more terrifying than suspicious- I can only wonder what it means.
***
I woke up with a lion-roar yawn. Amy threw a pillow at me from her bed.
Me: Hey! What was that for?!
Amy: Your snoring kept me up all night
Me: I don't snore!
Amy: Pfft. Tell that to the bags under my eyes.
I laughed and she threw another pillow at me.
Amy: I'm going to stay in the hotel and catch up on sleep that I lost, everything you need is on the bathroom counter.
I rolled out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom. My hair was a frazzled mess and I looked like I had just crawled out of the sewer. After taking a shower, brushing my teeth, dying my hair, and putting it up into a pony tail, I grabbed a folder off the counter.

I opened it to find information about my new client, Addison Monroe.
She wanted to meet me in an hour at the Shea Café so I knew that I would have to hurry up and get down there. I left the room just as Amy began a small steady snore.
I approached the elevator and lightly tapped the button. The doors opened immediately, Heather was on the floor reading a book.
Me: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Ex-bestfriend sitting on the floor of the lift reading a book-- that's not strange .-.
Heather: Relax, whoever you are, I'm just waiting for a friend.
Didn't she recongnize me? Oh. Right, I look a bit different. As long as I don't directly look at her, I don't think she'll figure it out.
I hit the lobby button as the elevator doors closed. She flipped a page of her book. I slightly tilted my head just to see what she was reading. "Inheritance" from the Eragon series. I had a literal fandom spasm in the elevator.
Heather: Ah-ha! So it is you!
Me: Wha-what are you talking about?
She slammed the book shut and stood up.
Heather: I know for a fact that Ashlee Pawson loves this series to death. So much so, that she's read the Inheritance book 4 consecutive times!
Me: It's-Its- Well... ITS JUST THAT ITS SUCH A GREAT SERIES! *flails dramatically* Glabortorix's description and voice just-
Heather: Gives you chills every single time. AND you have the tiniest crush on him!
Me: UGH! Fine. You got me!
Heather: Ha! We should talk.
Me: About what?
Heather: Where are you going?
Me: None of your business
Heather: You did not just say that to me
Me: But I did. And it's true. NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS UP IN HERE THO BRUH!
Heather: AWWW NAH! *snaps* You just crossed a line!
Me: Yeah, well compared to you, the line I crossed is about as small and insignificant as an aglet.
Heather: ...
The elevator doors opened.
Heather: What's an aglet?
Me: Exactly.
I stepped off and went out the hotel doors. I had half an hour to get to that café.
Heather: Wait up!
She stopped in front of me.
Heather: Hear me out.
Me: No.
Heather: Okay, then I'm just going to speak anyway. Please. Can you and I just... Hang out like we used to?
Her expression was sincere and filled with a loniless- the loniless- that I felt when she abandoned me.
Then, I did something that was completely against my nature. A part of me came out that I have never seen before.
I gave Heather a dead cold glare.
Me: I'm done playing nice, trying to spare your feelings.
I spat. Ew. it's on my shoe.
Me: It's time you grow up and stop living in your fantasy world. Ashlee is dead, Heather. Dead. I'm not her, and I never will be. I've been places and seen things that I might never recover from and it's changed me. And the pain you caused me...
I winced as I remembered the emotional wound. Writing about how I felt was just too difficult then. I'm over it now.
Heather: But- but- I like you as you are, you're still the same person-
Me: No, I'm not. It's about time you wake up and smell the roses, because I'm not Ashlee- I'm Xura. And I don't care about grades, Highschool, anything that Ashlee used to care about--Anything you care about. I have new friends, better friends. And Heather, it's time we said goodbye because our relationship ended a while ago.
Heather: But what about that whole childhood? What about everything we've done as friends?!
Me: Good memories that I thank you for. You made my life not as bad as it could have been then. But now I don't need you.
Ignoring the busy traffic next to us, there was a moment of silence. The wind blew our hair into our faces.
Heather: Bye...
She reached out her hand as a tear slid down her cheek. Coldly, I took it and gave it a shake.
Me: Goodbye Heather.
I released my hand then blended into the crowd.
No. I don't want to talk about it.
Eventually, I reached café Shea and scanned everyone sitting outside. The file said to look for someone with a pink rose at their table.
There.

She was pretty, and looked a little nerdy. I awkwardly sat in the chair that was next to her.
Me: Hi.
Addison: Hi.
AWKWARD SILENCEE.
Addison: So you're Scarlett Hunter?
Me: The one and only.
Addison: I'm Addison, though you can call me Addi. So... Are the rumors true?
Me: What rumors?
Addison: That you single-handedly defeated Charles Kaplan's arsenal of ninja's in order to get potion 13? Which you didn't even get paid for stealing?!
Me: uh...
Looks like Xaiviar exaggerated a little too much.
Me: ... Yes?
Addi: EEEK! That is so super-duper cool! *clears throat* uh... I mean... Uh.... Would you mind giving me your autograph?
Me: Sureeee..
I felt a little guilty, but hey! It wasn't my rumor, right?
She handed me a piece of paper and a pen. I quickly squiggled my initials and a little doodle of narwhal on it. She squealed, and leapt with joy.
Addi: Oh... Those aren't the initials for Scarlett Hunter...
Me: Oops! I'm sorry! I can-
Addi: No! It's fine. Your real initials spell out X.S.?
Me: Yeah, is that.. Weird?
Addi: Well... It's just Shawn Xaiviar- that hottie- his initials are S. X. It's oddly similar.
Me: oh... I didn't notice
Addi: Have you two met before?
Me: Well, once. He was-
I paused as I searched for the right word.
Me: -charming.
Charming? I meant to say sweet!
She smiled.
Addi: *sighs romantically* isn't he? You know, I started a fanfic about you two!

Me: I know what a fanfic is. But... You're writing one about me? And Xaiviar?
Addi: Well, duh! Of course I am. You're like super cool, and I totes ship the two of you.
Okay. I have a fan. AWESOME! Well, this page and my pen ink is running out so I have to go :( till' next time!
