Devour, what a way to go.

Circa 2100 A.D.
The dead walk, the living run.
Well, those left who are still living.
A heated nuclear exchange between the United States and the Middle East has left the world in a nuclear autumn.
Those who still live are in shelter with zombies surrounding their fortresses, waiting to be driven to insanity by the incessant moaning, or for one of their own to pass away so their food supply could be given a temporary boost.
But that is just the humans.
---
The fall of humanity nearly half a decade ago left household dogs alone, unsure of why their owners suddenly tried to eat them. Those who survived the chaos known now as the First Night roam as did their ancestors.
The small toy dogs didn't make it past the First Night, unable to survive a world without riding in purses or wet food put out in a dish every morning and evening. No way to hunt or fight for themselves, they succumbed to starvation or in the jaws of their infected owners.
The survivors were the strong. From the short Dachshund, to the towering Great Dane, any canines with the means to live without human pampering, did. Turned feral by time, these canines now have the cities to themselves. Well, if you don't include to zombies.
The stench of the Undead allows for the dogs to know when their putrid pursuers are beginning to catch up again. The Undead are slow and uncoordinated, but the dogs cannot combat the Undead, only avoid, as the flesh of the dead is toxic and will kill any dogs who decide to fight back with their teeth.
They roam to survive.
Not conquest, not victory, just survival.

Uhm, look! Rules.
1. No wolves, wolf hybrids, or mysterious wolf packs appearing from no where to try and get you to join their pack. No angsty emo doggies looking for that special someone to fill the hole in their heart or females constantly in heat.
2. I expect at least one paragraph per post. Proper grammar and spelling is also expected. No chatspeak whatsoever, neither in nor out of character. Don't make me go get out the N00b Away. >>
3. A strict limit of two characters per player is currently imposed. This may be raised or lowered with time, depending on the interest this role play receives.
4. No "romances." This is survival/horror, not five-second romance. Go find another role play if you expect to have fifty females fawning over your male.
5. The closest you need to come to fantasy in this role play is the zombies. No wings that magically appear from no where or shooting laser beams from paws. Descriptions must also be realistic. No green polka dots or purple eyes. Seriously.
6. These are hard times for all species, and the humans are the most desperate and should be avoided at all costs. In this world, it is more likely a human would shoot at and eat any canine that foolishly approaches, rather than take them in.
7. Realism. Every dog lets a piece of prey slip by. It takes multiple canines to take down a single deer unless it is sick and weak, and no dog, no matter how strong, can drag a whole deer. Prey is scarce and precious; remember, the dogs are competing for food with the zombies.
8. This is somewhat of an open-world. While plots and paths are free for choice, I expect you to be competent in advancing a plotline. Just saying "Mary blinked and watched." does not contribute to a plot: Try doing something unexpected or creative.
9. All of Tess' rules apply, as per usual.
