Krzyżak wrote:@Bloom & Katt I personally use watercolour crayons with loads of water on non-watercolor sheets, just choosing those thicker, and it looks nice. In English they should be called something like technical paper I believe? Standard are too thin to work with anything containing liquids, even promarkers.
Also, seconding Wacom tablets but older ones. I've had bamboo one for three years, used it every day and it worked perfectly, now switched to Intuos S and it's moody to say at least. Pressure disappears all of sudden and it's hard to restore c':

By the way hi, new to this topic x3 Randomly browsing forums I stumbled over this one, thought I might stay being an artist as well c:

Hmmm - I've never heard of that....the nearest thing I can think of would just be a higher gsm paper - printer paper is 70-100gsm... and card is around 175gsm so somewhere between that maybe?
Intuos is what was called the bamboo line. (while intuos was semi-professional, I think) The only problem with my tablet was that the cable didn't fit so it kept disconnecting randomly, but we all have android phones in my house, so we have loads of USB - micro USB cables lying around!

Checked all different brands I have but it doesn't say how many gsm it has. I'd bet under 175 like you said.
Googled it and it seems that I could be talking about either Pen S and pro S, oops ^^; I have the Pen one without ~Touch~ because people say it's pretty much useless and they don't use it anyway. I don't think I would either + saved around 90zł (~$30 usd)

@Mythic; You could probably also use bristol paper (smooth). vellum if you want more tooth to your paper.
I usually use either bristol or watercolor (cold-pressed if I want more texture, hot-pressed when I want it smooth)!

With watercolor you should generally take advantage of their transparency and work in layers! I mark of the highlight areas and leave them white while building color gradually to create shading.

I have the bamboo pen tablet which was the most basic out of them, but then I don't need fancy things to do what I want. £15 isn't bad savings wise...

@Krzyżak -- I usually only buy paper in creative stores and the only thicker one they have is usually watercolor paper or mixed media paper xD (except for cardboard lol) I also had a sketchbook (Hahnemühle - Livre de Dessin, no idea if you can get that outside of Germany) and it was really nice for watercolor, markers, etc. 150 g/m² :3 I'm by no means an expert on watercolors but it worked well for what I was doing with it :D

I was wondering If I could get some advice about this drawing that I just finished. I realize now the button end of the lion is off, but I would just like general advice on anatomy and stuff like that.

Image

Since there is nothing other then mythics piece which had already given the advice I would give..

Also edit- After a mishap with a puppy and my tablet I am currently looking for a new one..Is there any good suggestions? I only have about $200 to spend so I cant get anything all that expensive..

@Mythic..
I love love love love love what you did with that watercolor.
;u; the details are so pretty, and subtle enough that it doesn't lose anything in the image.
My favorite part is the heart smearing.
It gives me some weird vibes.. that I really like
Really great job <3 <3

@Stonefly, I am really bad at lions, so I really can't offer you the best advice..
but I'd say.. Maybe gather up some more reference photos and study the anatomy of a lion, and how he sits.
As you mentioned, yes his butt gets a lot smaller as it touches the ground, and it kinda looks liek you have this massive lion body.. on a cub's butt. So maybe try not squishing everything together.. even if it's easier and it makes it easier for you to not draw paws... force yourself to do it and I'd also recommend looking at perspective and your whats it called? Line of the horizon thing?
idk. but your lion seems to be initially perched on a flat surface, but his rear and his tail tell us differently. His rear and his tail and the way his paws are lined, make it look like he's sitting on a slope. I really like what you did with the head and upper part of his body though! It looks like you have a pretty great grasp on a lion's face anatomy.. which can be difficult to get right. I'd suggest maybe working on strengthing your talents and try adding some realistic detail to the mane?

;o; I hope that helps!

Now for meee:

This is my first attempt at chibi anthro art... and anthro art in general.
Can I get some feedback and ways to improve on this?
Feedback on everything from the sketch/lineart/coloring is all welcome. ^.^
Also if I messed up anything with anatomy, or if you can recommend ways to improve.. please do. <3

Thanks you everyone for the great advice on how to fix my painting. It was the first time I really ever did watercolors so expect better paper and skill next time I decide to paint again.

@sabu
I really love how you highlight the eyes in your drawing! It looks amazing. Everything looks anatomically correct and there is nothing I would change. Great job!

@stonefly
I have to agree with Sabu, the way the butt looks makes it look a bit strange. There's nothing wrong with making it a little bigger, otherwise it all just looks squished.

I've been trying to draw in more dynamic angles, so if anyone could critique the anatomy of this I would be forever grateful. I think it looks better than I normally do but I'm not sure. D:

@Mutant Eevee

That's probably better than I could do when drawing a rabbit. I totally need to practice other animals anatomy better
