After thinking a long while about where I wanted Varen's character to go, I had realized I had a difficult time doing anything with him. Since I want him to be in a better home, I decided I would run a readopt for him so that he can get to a better place where he might be used and have more inspiration for someone.

All of his previous info (and art) can be found here - you MUST keep track of the art and art credits when you're done, his site will eventually be deleted as well (so it would be best to save the art to your own site or computer). Also keep in mind that this guy has a family (which can be found on his page) and you must keep them related to their families.

Varen is officially grown up, but I still used him as a kid after his growth. You can choose to have him as an adult or try-out for him as a kid, either is fine and does not affect your chances. Should you keep him as a kid, he already has a growth that you can use at any time (that comes with his wings).

You cannot change his name or gender, but you may feel free to change his personality and make him a blank(-ish) slate (or you can keep his personality and info if you really liked it). In order to win Varen, it will be a small "impress me" with a 750 word limit and 3 art piece limit. There are no restrictions on what you must do or how you do it, simply make me believe you'll care for him. You also don't need to use up all 750 words or 3 art pieces (I may boost the limits should need arise, but it is unlikely).

The contest will officially end on September 19th (extension possible).

I'm going to go ahead and end the poll now! Most of you wanted the end date to be kept on Saturday the 19th of September, but since there were a couple of requests for an end date, I will meet with a compromise. I will be ending this on Sunday the 20th of September around mind-day or early-evening (wow, so specific), so there will be a bit of time in the morning while I'm busy with other things.

Hey guys! I got a good question in my private messages today.

Do words in credits and lyrics count?

If you section off an area and put it as "Credits" I will not add them to the word count. Also, I won't count titles if they're obvious and clearly titles that section text. For an example of this, check out a form I did a while ago. The titles like "The Poet of the Skies," "Preface," and "Likes/Dislikes" will not count in the word count. However, quotes, lyrics, phrases and similar things will count (like the quotes in my form).

A quick glimpse: The bell rang in his ears, the sound vibrating through his skull as he gave a small huff. Looking up from his desk, Varen watched as his students left and headed out the classroom door.
Gathering up his folders and papers, he shoved what appeared to be drawings of mythical creatures into his bag. Picking up his coat, the quiet man slung his head through his messenger bag's strap and walked out on to the school yard, where he headed to his car. As he clambered inside, he closed his eyes, taking off his glasses and rubbing his face with both of his hands as he leaned his head against the seat's back.

Here he was- 25 years old and still acting as if he was a small child. For he was a lucid dreamer, often caught sleeping when he could as to escape his real life problems. Dreams of another planet, filled with marvelous creatures and beings. Dragons, thieves, kingdoms. He was the king who ruled over his people, and they were the ones that served him. He was the one who had killed dragons, gone on long journeys, discovered everything there was to know about this strange and hostile world.

Yet when he awoke, he was no more then a mere History Teacher with the greatest thing he had done was help a friend decide between a dog and a cat. At work he was the teacher who was left by himself, sat in the corner while reading books of adventure and action. The nerdy teacher with the dragon mug. The quiet man who didn't talk to people, yet admired them from some distance away. The man who'd rather play Dungeons and Dragons over being invited to some acquaintance's wedding.

And as Varen arrived home, he could only stare up at the apartment building he stayed in. How empty, plain it was. Brown bricks and floor after floor of windows and small decks that could only fit one or two people on them. Here he lived, with the only company being his pet chameleon. He did the same thing, day in and day out. Attend the High School he worked at, come home, prepare dinner, prepare for bed, then sleep.
Sleep. When he was no longer an ordinary man, but something else.
For the time being, Sleep could be his best friend.

Overall self: All his life Varen has been a dreamer, aspiring to be something that he can't. As a young child Varen was always the quiet type, the one who didn't have much friends and, to be honest, wasn't very bothered by it. Much rather preferring to daydream over meeting other children, Varen was often seen wandering around the school, lost in his imaginary world. Pretending to swing swords and defeat beasts was what he enjoyed to do. His lucid dreams became a regular thing, often waking up in the middle of the night and becoming disappointed that his mind had played tricks on him. These traits carried on into his adulthood, where he then went to university to prove to his family that he wouldn't believe in dreams for the rest of his life. Thus, he became a High School History Teacher. At his work he was always left along in the Staff Room, teacher preferring the company of others over Varen's quiet, docile personality. If one was to look at his desk, those flipped over papers that they would find would show them drawings and sketches of characters he's seen in his dreams, as well as things he's encountered. Though he doesn't hide the fact that he's a huge nerd and overall the definition of a geek, Varen is incredibly self conscious of what he does in public and often tries to hide his true self around his family. After all, he wouldn't want to disappoint them.

"The way to the heart is through music" - Varen, unlike most guys his age, isn't the social type. He's considered an extreme introvert, and avoids social situations like it's the plague. His headphones are the key to escaping the hardships of life, in his own way. His favorite band being bring me the horizon, and favorite song being 'Drown'.
"I'd rather not... sorry" - Varen isn't the type to say no easily, as he hates negative emotion. When it comes to family, or the one friend he has, he would do anything to keep them happy, even if it puts his own happiness at stake.
"I'd do anything for them" - Varen is extremely loyal to his family, and would go to any extremes if it meant protecting them, no matter the cost, or what it takes, ever.

Varen's relationship with his father is pretty typical, honestly. They tend to listen and respect each other, however sometimes feel they can't quite relate with everything each other does; besides the shared love in loud music, that is. While his father is extremely energetic, and can't seem to stop moving, varen prefers to stay to himself, and excess energy would draw attention. Even with his fathers protective tendencies, he would still do anything to earn his approval, as it means the world to him. The two make quite the duo when paired together, especially if music is involved, loud at that. His father often tries to get him to socialize with others, but to no avail. Every now and then varen will talk with someone for a minute or two, just to see the happy smile on his fathers face, it was worth it.

Varen's relationship with his mother is unique, the two tending to relate more than he does with his father. Both tend to avoid social situations, and get attached quickly. He idolizes his mother with her ability to speak her mind freely, even if it isn't the best idea, as he tends to have slight troubles expressing himself completely. Much like his mother, it's hard to get to know varen without persistence, but once you do, you'll be friends forever. Both varen and his mother have a special bond only found between mother son, the two of them being more in sync than anything you could imagine. All it takes is one look for the other to see what they are thinking, or feeling, and attempt to fix it. Varen spends a lot of time with his mother, time he wouldn't trade for the world.

Much like the relation between his brother, May and Varen tend to bring out the best, and worst in each other. Her cunning nature leading to multiple pranks played on varen, and his silent nature, jokingly giving he the silent treatment in return, till eventually she causes another reaction to trump the last, and they start talking again. They each have each others back, in any circumstance, wether it be with others, or even something with themselves they need help with. May, despite her seemingly 'mean' nature would go to anything to protect Varen, and he would do the same in return. Never would you want to witness these three siblings working together on anything, especially if you did something to cross one of them, or any part of their family... you would regret it the instant you saw the glint in their eyes

Unlike the relationships between some of his other family members, Varen and Eryx are extremely close, despite they're different personalities. Where Varen lacks, Eryx has extra, and the same vise versa. Eryx, is Varen's courage, the only one that can manage to tease a reaction out of him with even the slightest of prods. Wherein Varen is Eryx's sense, the one constantly overthinking things before they're done, and the cautious side of the duo. The two spend quite a bit of time with each other, wether it be playing around, teasing each other, hanging with friends or family, or even just in the same room. They both get on each others nerves so much it's normal, and each without the other, would feel lost. In the end, it will all come down to the safety of each other, no matter the situation, or occurance

A Plumie, perhaps 16, scurried around a kitchen. His fur is a gradient of yellow and green. There's dark grey -- almost black -- and orange stripes flowing across his pelt like cooling lava. His eyes are a blaring red, but they're not ominous, nor evil, but in fact tender and sweet. He wears a pink, blue, and yellow apron that reads "There's No Kitchen Without a Pan". There's some patches of a substance sticking to his fur. There's not one, but two Plumies in the kitchen. The other looks to be about 9, who is munching on some cookie dough. She has a brown pelt and vivid green eyes. All of a sudden, the older male begins to speak.

"June!" He said, turning around to face the girl. "I told you not to eat the cookie dough! We're using them to make cookies!"

June frowned, then nodded. "But Varen! It's soooo good!" She whined, looking at the male with her best puppy-dog eyes.

Varen looked at the Plumie, then said, "What am I going to tell your family when they come home? Plus, the cookies taste better after they cook!" He smiled at the young girl.

The girl studied Varen for a moment, then beamed. "Okay!" She exclaimed, grabbing a cookie sheet. Varen and June both began to scoop out the cookie dough. They both smiled when they were done preparing the sheet. Varen brought the sheet over to the oven and turned on the timer.

"Alrighty! They'll be done soon," Varen said, grinning. He looked over at the young Plumerian who was eating the remainder of the dough in the bowl.

BEEP BEEP! The timer went off on the oven, startling the two Plumies. They had been playing a game of Connect Four while they waited. The two looked at each other and smiled happily. June ran over to the oven and opened it quickly.

"Wait up!" Varen called, grabbing an oven mitt. He slipped it onto his paw and grabbed the tray from the oven. The sweet aroma of chocolate chip cookies filled the air. The room became warm and inviting with the two amazed Plumerians and the sheer happiness that emitted from them.

Placing the cookie sheet on top of the oven, Varen figured the cookies would need a few minutes to cool. After that, he grabbed a plate from the cabinet and began taking the cookies of the cookie tray. Meanwhile, June sat excitedly in her seat, impatient for the arrival of the cookies.

June's eyes lit up as she spotted the chocolate chip cookies. She could hardly contain herself! The girl grabbed a cookie as soon as possible. She dug into the treat. A huge grin spread across her face and she wolfed down the cookie. "Mmmm! That was great!" She said, getting up from her seat. "Thanks! You're the best babysitter!" June hugged him.

Varen smiled tenderly down at the young girl, accepting her into a hug. He didn't know how to put it into words, but he was happy. He was working with his two favorite things: baking and kids. ♥

A few years have passed. Varen is sitting in a large office in an extensive building. Across from him sits an ominous male who sits stiffly in his chair. He is glancing at some papers on his desk, but he then glances up at Varen.

"We should get started. Tell me about yourself," The male said to Varen, looking into his eyes.

"Well... hi there? I'm Varen, your average 20 year old who loves to bake."

The male began to jot notes on a piece of paper as he talked. "What attracted you to this job?"

"I've loved to cook for as long as I can remember! I would help my parents out in the kitchen as much as possible. I believe catering would be a good beginning."

"Why should you be hired?"

"I have experience! Well, I'm currently going to a culinary arts school."

"How do you work in groups?"

"I believe I work fine. I'm very flexible, yet I'm willing to stand up for what I believe in."

The questions go on and on. The Plumie does his best to answer the questions thoroughly and honestly. The other male sends him on his way and tells Varen that he'll be contacted if he got the job. ♥
