The sound of shallow breathing filled the motionless, empty air of August's bedroom, and lifted the tendrils of hair that had slipped out of her hair tie across her face in an uncomfortable rhythmic motion. Legs and arms had not been used consistently throughout the week; the only time the limbs were given the gift of motion was when hunger tore at her stomach or using the bathroom was needed. Even then it was not often, as August had learned to suppress the feeling of such needs as soon as 'it' started happening. The sudden slamming doors. Objects placed in foreign places. Cool drafts that appeared in even the hottest parts of the house. Since these occurring's had started, every creak that was heard at night was paranormal activity. Every unfamiliar noise meant ominous scratches and bruises once the lights went out and eyes were shut. And it seemed as thought August was to only one who noticed these things. These little things that made her mind tick into the darkest parts of her mind. One could say the young adult had fallen into a depression-like condition, which would be accurate for the most part. August had not spoken a full sentence for what seemed like years. She wouldn't answer questions unless they were directly pointed towards her, and even then it was yes or no responses. However, there was a constant fear. Of what she could not pinpoint herself, and she did not know if the other girls knew either. Maybe they didn't even know how severe August's paranoia was. Maybe they did not even know how little August strayed from her bed, let alone her bedroom. August could not recall the last time her door had opened with one of her sisters on the other side, or if it had been opened by anyone other than herself or a spirit.
"Spirit." August murmured into the pillow she was squeezing, although it sounded more like a throaty grunt than anything else. Her throat felt more raw than usual from the lack of speaking. And probably from not drinking as much water as she should. Before this whole ordeal, August was healthy. Happy. Quiet and antisocial, but happy. Now she was only two of things, and one could easily guess what they were. She knew she should eat and drink something, but it felt as if everything around her was moving so fast and she was just stuck in time. Fear had a weird way of paralyzing August into weeks of hibernation, so it seemed. With another inaudible string of words that were likely gibberish anyway, August pulled herself up into some kind of sitting position, where her chin was resting on her knees and her long arms were coiling around them in some kind of protective embrace. Her once wrinkle - free white, oversized top was now the skin of a pale old woman, and her the cloth of her patterned, too-tight of leggings was uneven to one another. With shaky hands she tugged roughly at her shirt, as if it was an attempt to pull off the wrinkles with force, and then August smoothed out the uneven portions of cloth so her leggings were now symmetrical in length to each other. Her movements were jagged and slow, and seemed to get even slower as she forced herself out of her bed.
The cold floor felt oddly calming against the bottom of August's feet, though they soon grew hot with the feeling of them 'falling asleep'. It was a rather uncomfortable feeling, and her walk was awkward as she clambered towards the stairs and almost fell down them.
Everything looked foreign as she walked into the kitchen. The pictures that hung on the wall. The small, almost unnoticeable chips in the corners of the cabinets. It hit August like a ton of bricks, and she felt the urge to run back up the stairs and shove her face into the pillows on her bed, and do something she'd been doing a lot of lately: crying. August knew the anxiety she had faced that was built up surrounding the idea of coming downstairs would be for nothing, though. Thus she scrambled across the kitchen, opening cupboards at random because she had forgotten where everything was. Then she saw it. The stack of Ouija boards that had been placed there for safe keeping. It was another blow to August's fragile mental stability, and she found herself breathing loudly. And hard. Her long legs carried her up the flight of stairs and back into her bed within seconds. August could even swear she heard the rusty hinges of the cupboard still closing shut.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Terrah walked her stealthy walk down the stairs of the old sorority house and into the kitchen. Out of habit she opened up the cupboard that held her large collection of ouija boards. Thumbing through she found an older board, one of her favorites. The design was swirley and intricate. Each letter and number on the board was a piece of artwork. The board itself was made of wood from a tree in Salem during the Salem Witch Project. Taking care not to scratch any of her boards Terrah slid the plank of wood out of the cabinet and selected a new planchette she has purchased the week before.
Lightly gripping the board she carried the board and chette to the large dinning table and gingerly laid the board to her left and the chette to her right. Terra preferred to sit near the end of the table so several people could join her if they would like. A note pad and pen sat at her seat waiting for her to record the words spirits had to say.
As she moved to sit down something stopped Terrah. Maybe August would like to join me, it may help her paranoia. And just as she thought this she heard pounding foot steps racing up the mountain of stairs and a cupboard door slam shut. Terrah looked around the corner of the dinning room just as the cupboard that held her boards and chettes bounced shut. She made her way up the stairs and tapped her fingers heavily on the door to August's room.

Slender, bony fingers picked at the loose pieces of thread on the sheets of August's bed. The sheets had been placed onto the new mattress not even a month ago, but during Augustus's hibernation, they had been plucked of their threads. It was time for new sheets, but August knew they would just be picked at until new ones took their place. Her hands began to travel towards her pillow, and she stuffed both of her hands inside the pillow case to prevent any further damage to her things. August had a strong urge to go to her parents, but could not muster up the courage to make it to the front door, let alone take the time to make multiple trips in and out to get all of her things. The best word to describe her situation was 'stuck'. She believed there was no escaping the sorority house. It gave her anxiety to think about leaving, but it also bothered her to think about staying. The only thing she could do was barricade herself in her room in hopes that she would wake up from this dream. August knew she could not stop her friends from living, so she tried to block out the sounds of their laughter and clanking of pots as they cooked, and the way the stairs creaked much like they were now.
Someone (or something) was making their way up the stairs, and August could only hope it was something that was living. She pulled her hands out of her pillow case to press them against her ears, but it was no use as she could still hear the "creak, creak, creak" of the old wooden stairs. August could also her the rapping on her door, though she did her best to ignore it. But it caught her attention when she realized the familiar knocking of one of her roommates. It took August a second to recognize who it was, as she was still trying to put all of her sisters different types of knocks and names together, but she concluded that it was Terrah knocking. August did not want to move. She really did not want to get up. But her gentle and friendly disposition got the best of her, and August loudly shuffled across her room and towards the door. A shaky hand grasped the door knob, and then jerked away as if it was boiling hot, then gripped the handle again and slowly began to pull it towards August. Careful not to expose to much of herself, August propped the door open only enough so that Terrah could see her head. "Yes?"

"Space: The Final Frontier..."
the oft-repeated words of the Star Trek into sequence blared through the tiny speakers of the little televison, tucked far away in the attic, beyond the ears of both mortal and spirit. Estrella had found the dinky little CRT box some time ago, and through some spiritual power or another, had gotten it to run TNG episodes on a constant loop. It wouldn't play anything else, and it seemed to only play the episodes she remembered, which was odd, but hey, anything to relieve the monotony of being dead. Speaking of monotony, the new crop of girls looked rather promising. Estrella wasn't all that good a judge of character, but even she could tell that at least one or two of them would be fairly easy targets. The rest... well, she'd get Ruben's help on those. He was great with stuff like that.
After a few more minutes of the show, Estrella got bored. Oh, what the heck, it was a rerun anyways, time to go test the waters. The spirit flipped herself upright, as she'd spent the last few days in a position that made her look like she was lying on her stomach (she wasn't really of course, doing that would require a corporeal form), then drifted through the ceiling, heading for the kitchen. She'd done some good work in there in the past, so she figured it'd be a good place to start now. If it ain't broke and all that.
Upon entering the kitchen, Estrella was delighted to find her theory confirmed. A Ouija board sat on the kitchen table, just begging to be interacted with. Cracking her ghostly knuckles and cackling quietly to herself, Estrella settled onto the tabletop and waited for the board's owner to enter the room. It was time to mess with some heads.

xxJasmine tossed and turned as the pictures raced through her mind. She saw quick flashes pass through her mind of a young girl come to the house to get her fortune read and then jasmine sits down at looks at her crystal ball, then she sees that the girl's future in inevitably terrible. Jasmine doesn't know what to do and then another flash comes as she sees her turn blank, someone had possessed her body and then it goes to another flash of her past where she was rubbing her belly. Now all she sees is pure white, and her eyes begin to unscrew open and she opens her eyes without hesitation. She looks up at the ceiling of her room and she closes her eyes for a few seconds as she pulled her hands to cover her eyes. Her eyes began to gloss and tears running down her redden face. She wipes her tears with her covers and then she sits up. She pulls her legs close to her chest and she rests her chin on them followed by her arms wrapped around her knees. She sighed and looked around her room and she rocked her body back and forth for a bit and then she managed to slip out of her covers and place her feet into the slippers next to her bed. She stands up and begins to stretch and looks aimlessly in front of her, feeling empty inside once more as she remembers her fall and how the person she loved left her and now is probably with someone else miles and miles away from her.
xxShe likes to see into the future but sometimes hates to see when its negative and hates when she gets flashes of her past. She walked across her room with the floor creaking upon every step and she walked to grab her silk robe as she placed it on top of her lavender and silky night gown. She grabbed the hair tie from her wrist and tied her hair into a bun and then she managed to stretch for a bit. Her mother would always tell her that when you stretched you would grow taller, standing at five feet four, she always will always think she would likes to grow another inch. She smiled as she thought of her mother and how adventurous and great her mother was. She would always help her garden and they would go hiking every sunday, while her grandmother never approved of her mother's way since she wanted her to be elegant and as proper as she was but she was more of a reckless teenager but in a mom's body. Jasmine was a mixture of both since she spent most of her life with her grandmother and she taught her morals and manners, while the time spent with her mother they would both dress in matching outfits and it would always be nineties inspired, a very tomboyish look, and they would spend their time like any mother and daughter going grocery shopping, regular shopping, going to the park and many other things.
xxBut those where the best times of her life to this day. She looked around her room one last time and grabbed the knob of her door and slowly opened it; it creaked as she closed it behind her. She walked down the wooden stairs and they creaked under her weight. She usually hears them creak at night when all the girls are sleeping and pretty much knows that they live with the dead. She reached the kitchen and looked around for a sign of anyone. To her surprise no one was there except an open cupboard with terrah's ouija boards stacked inside. She looked around and saw the dining area and spotted one of the ouija boards laying down on the table. She eyes it for a bit curious about it, and walked over to the table. She looked down and her eyes began to shimmer as she felt its rigids and corners feeling the lovely board. She wasn't scared of the board but she knew that she didn't want to use what was not hers. But just then she felt the room go cold; she usually gets this feeling when she is in the room with someone; who is not the living. She had a confused look on her face and looked around seeing nothing. So she walked back to the kitchen and grabbed water and warmed it up, followed by grabbing a tea bag and made herself some green tea. She left a little in the pitcher and then she started to sip some, feeling the warm liquid sliding down her throat.
xxThen she started to look at the board again leaning against the marble counter while sipping on her tea. She knew how to use it, well sort of but she was't sure if she really knew how to use it. She hoped terrah would show her one day, and she realized that none of the other girls were anywhere to be found she looked around and all she could hear is the walls occasionally creaking which was normal. Then she heard a few murmurs upstairs, a small smile appeared on her face as she sipped more and more of her tea. Her mood had lightened up and she slowly walked up the stairs, and saw terrah looking int august's room. She walked to them and said," goodmorning girls." Then she walked past them and back up to her room, she just wanted to read a little but before returning back down stairs. So she grabbed a book from a small shelf on the corner and picked out the small bookmark she had placed in between the two pages which was really a small note with a corny quote. She sat down in the small bench in the front of her bed as she arranged herself in a conferrable position. Then she started to read her book while she finished reading her book, a mystery book. Once she read a few chapters and her tea was gone she closed her book and placed it on her bed and then she gracefully walked down stairs and into the empty kitchen. She grabbed her mug and started to wash it, adding some soap and water waiting for someone to enter the room.

The petite young girl clutched her teddy bear tight, watching Jasmine from afar. Hazel noticed Estrella near the ouija board as a cheeky grin appeared on her face, her whole body tense. She was eager to see what the trickster would do next, but she patiently waited, turning back her attention to Jasmine. She often wondered why people these days wore such extravagant clothing. Well, it is pretty... She wondered if her mother would have allowed her to wear such things. Probably the richer people got to wear it. Clean. Comfy. Soft. She felt warm and bubbly just imagining it.
Hazel got tired of watching Jasmine and waiting for Estrella, so she decided to walk around a bit. Bored, she sat in a corner in the living room, looking at her teddy bear. Softly embracing the old and tattered bear, she whispered, "I love you, I'll never let you go.." Nuzzling it affectionately, she brought her legs closer towards her chest, and sat the bear in between.

Ruben lingered in the hallway of the stairs, his vaguely translucent form casting no shadow from the lights hung on the walls. He leant with one shoulder against the wall and one elbow propped up on the banister, tapping his fingers noiselessly along to a beat in his head. He had heard movement from his place in the next room over, and had drifted through the wall in time to catch a swift glimpse of Terrah's long, brown hair round the corner. So the girls are waking, then, he mused, ceasing the finger tapping and standing upright. He wondered for a moment if Estrella was aware, and decided to see if he could make some noise around the place - give the girls something nice to wake up to.
He made his way down the stairs, thumping on each step loudly as it came. He rounded the corner and took in the scene before him - he noticed Estrella first, poised by the ouija board to cause trouble. He grinned, glad he was able to catch her at the right time. He noticed only Jasmine was in the room - not the owner of the board, unfortunately. He knew one of the girls in the house, August, happened to be struggling with the...quirks...of living with ghosts, and Ruben felt a slightly guilty twinge. The poor thing looked exhausted last time he'd seen of her, probably due to his constant door-slamming episodes he'd decided to go through lately. New people were always exciting though, and Ruben couldn't help but find out what nagged them the most so he could use it against them.
Anyhow, he shook himself out of his thoughts and made his way over to Estrella at the table. He gave her a cocky smirk and leant over, placing his hands on the table and leaning over the board. "Ready to have some fun?" he asked with a slight laugh, looking towards the stairwell and waiting for Terrah to reappear. He then switched his gaze towards Jasmine and the glass she was holding. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions...

A flash of white caught the corner of Estrella's eye, and she turned her head slightly to see Hazel exiting the room. It was probably for the best, too; the kid might have technically been older than her, but she was still a kid. Estrella still wasn't sure what the girl's fear tolerance was, but she wasn't about to go scaring her now, she'd been through enough.
When Ruben walked in, Estrella's face split in a mischievous grin, her eyes alight with deviant glee. Her favorite partner in crime. Really, they complimented each other perfectly, he was loud and obnoxious, his work in the slamming doors and breaking things was unparalleled, and she was quiet and subtle, opting for the more psychological route. Together, they were the perfect poltergeist. "I'm always ready," she said, leaning over the Ouija board, a plan already forming in her head. She nodded towards Jasmine, or more specifically, the mug she was scrubbing out."Smash that," she said, herself moving into position by a nearby cupboard, carelessly left open. Oddly enough, it was filled to capacity with more Ouija boards. "Jeez, how many people do these chicks want to talk to?" she asked rhetorically, sticking her head in the cupboard to get a better look. Sure, there were a lot of them here, but there weren't that many. Shelving the issue for a later date, the spirit pulled her head out of the small space and turned back to Ruben, further outlining her plan. "Once you do that, I'll knock these down, that should get her attention. Then, just sit tight and let me do my thing. When I give the signal, make the biggest racket you can. I want the entire house to know we're here."

➤ her eyes flicked open to view her room. It was dark, like usual. She had hung a thick blanket over her window, so she could sleep later. But today, this was not the case, someone had stomped down the stairs. She knew it wasn't one of the girls, they were all pretty quiet. She sat up, running her fingers through her hair. She didn't feel the need to change today, so she rose from her mattress, and walked towards the door, thankful for her socks, or her feet would have frozen to the ground. She grasped the knob with a pale hand and jerked the door open, stalking down the stairs to get some coffee. Her mouth was open in a yawn as she came to the kitchen/ dining room area, and she wiggled her eyebrows at Jasmine. goodmorning, did you hear the stomping? yeah, getting real tired of all that.
she poured some ground coffee into the maker, and pressed BREW, waiting for the coffee to be finished. Her head snapped over to the ouija board that was on the counter and her face twisted into a grimace. She walked forward, bending down even with the board and looking at the planchette. Her eyes narrowed, and when she heard the coffee maker beep, she jumped up, almost hitting her head on an opened cabinet. Ouija boards filled it, and she immediatley slammed it shut.
She grabbed her coffee mug that was plain black and poured coffee in it, grabbing milk and sugar.
As she filled the cup, small little orbs began to appear on the outside of the mug, and she took a well deserved drink of her coffee. She scratched her head, hopping up to sit on the counter, hitting her heels against one of those cabinet drawers, looking towards Jasmine again.

Terrah stood at August's door for what seemed like five minutes before it was opened just enough to see a little eye looking through the doorway. This house is loud, she thought to herself as Jasmine and a spirit, a male spirit in fact, walked up and down the stairs. Terrah gave a little wave and smile to Jasmine. Hey August, if you would like you can join me for a ouija session down in the dinning room. She cocked her head a little and smiled. Terrah began her way back down the stairs to the dinning room.
Ahh my little fetuses!! Terrah squealed as she entered the kitchen and saw her younger house mates. She looked towards her board and could sense a spirit was waiting. She grabbed herself a hello kitty mug from one of the cupboards and filled it with water from the kettle that sat on the stove. As a big tea drinker Terrah had always preferred her tea strong and green and filled her tea ball with loose leaf mint tea she had purchased at a farmer's market earlier that week. She plopped the tea ball into her mug and bounced it up in down to shake the herbs up. Would you girls like to join me in an ouija session? Terrah slowly began walking towards the table, careful not to spill any water from her mug.
