Dear Diary,
Today I...

Wait, no, that doesn't sound right.

Rose's Journal: Entry 1

No, no. That still won't work.

Hmm...maybe writing in this thing wasn't such a good idea. I could have regifted it to Ella or something. I guess I'm not really the kind of girl who keeps a diary. Wait a second. I know...

From now on, this is not a diary!

This the SCRIPT of MY LIFE (coming soon to a theater near you!)

Want to see YOUR pet in the story? Just fill out this form! :)

(Note: Pets who are in the Drama Club will be featured a lot more. I will do my best to include everyone, but I already have the whole plot of this story decided. It will be a lot easier for me to make your pet important if they're Populars or Drama Club members.)

Like any good playwright, I will first introduce you to our cast of characters. I'll glue in a few pictures for costume reference.

Image
This is me, Rose. That's short for Roseline. I go to East Howl High, where I'm a freshmen. The actress playing me in this production of my life story should be a super talented singer and dancer. I'm not actually either of those things, but this is my diary script, so I can do whatever I want!

ImageImage
These are my weird parents. My dad is an accountant and my Mom works as a kindergarten teacher. Mom's the one who bought me this diary book as a birthday present.

Image
This is my freakishly talented brother, Louise. He's two grades above me in school, and he already has a girlfriend!! Yuck. He's also vice president and co-director of our Drama Club, a choir member, and an actor for some other community theatre. I'm not jealous or anything...he's still super annoying.

Image
The last family member I have to introduce is Laci, my spoiled sister. All she ever does is steal my food and break my stuff. She's still in elementary school, but my parents treat her like some sort of prodigy just because she's kinda good at math.

Image
My best friend is Ella. She's a little...quirky. She's still a super good singer and great secret-keeper. I've been her BFF since first grade, when she tripped in school hall, fell on top of Louise, and gave him a permanent scar with her pencil.

Image
Henry is definitely the cutest guy at our school. If only he would notice me!

Image
Ugh, this is Stella. There will probably be more on her later. Let's just say that she sold her soul for her popularity.

Image
This is Alouette, Louise's current (and first legit) girlfriend. She's queen of the school newspaper and occasionally helps out backstage with the Drama Club. We use to be cool, but...I don't know. I can't talk to her anymore. She's the only dog besides Ella who knows about..."The Cheddar Incident". It's kind of awkward when I see her hanging out with Lou. I'm just not sure about her anymore!

SCENE 1-
SETTING: EAST HOWL HIGH'S HALLWAYS
CHARACTERS: ME, ELLA, STELLA, SILVER, and ASSORTED STUDENTS

[ Last period has just ended for the students of East Howl High. They stream out into the crowded hallway, eager to begin the weekend. The bell clangs in the background, and the faint smell of cafeteria nachos wafts by. ]

[ Roseline and Ella enter ]

ELLA: Your birthday party was SO awesome last night, Rose!
ME: Aww, thanks...I think I'm getting to old for the whole pink cake thing, though.
ELLA: No way. Pink cake is totally mature.
ME: Yeah, that's coming from the girl who still watches Teletubbies.
ELLA: For the last time, I was just babysitting!
ME: Sure...
ELLA: *sigh* Anyway, did Mr. Dogwood assign any homework while I was in the bathroom?

[ Just as I open my mouth to reply, an all-too-familiar perfume hits my nose. I scowl, trying not to look her way. ]

[ Stella and her two dumb friends, Silver and Star, enter. ]

Silver and Star ^^^

[ I keep talking to Ella and hope that they don't see me. Stella and her friend-zombies continue chatting... ]

STELLA: So, I was like, NO, you can't be my dance partner. He was just too, like, short.
SILVER: Eww, short.
STAR: Ha ha, short.
STELLA: Yeah, as if I could ever like Dylan. I guess his friend Henry is kinda cute, though.

[ Wait, WHAT? ]

[ I turn around to glance at her. ]

[ Stella catches my eye and glares back. She spins around and walks off in the other direction. ]

ME: Ugh.
ELLA: OMG, Rose, will you just let it go?
((in a hushed tone)) ME: What, the fact that she ruined my high school life, or the fact that she's gonna steal Henry.
((also hushed now)) ELLA: What are you talking about?

[ I drag her over to a less-crowded corner. A gaggle of jocks passes us, talking loudly. ]

ME: I just heard her tell her lackeys that she thinks Henry is cute!

[ Ella rolls her eyes. ]

ELLA: So?? She always gossips about random boys. That doesn't mean she actually likes him.
ME: But remember in middle school when he used to have a crush on her?!
ELLA: That was in seventh grade...back when you two were still friends.
ME: Ugh, don't remind me.
ELLA: *deep sigh* Look, I'm sure it's nothing. Doesn't she already like John?
ME: Yeah...I guess you're right.
ELLA: Aaaaaaand she won't stand a chance after tomorrow.
ME: Uh, what?

[ Ella giggles and starts jumping excitedly ]

ELLA: You know how we're going to get lunch at the Café Cliché tomorrow? Well, I may have secretly invited Henry so that you can finally talk to him.
ME: YOU DID WHAT?!
ELLA: Shhh, I told him I just wanted to talk about some Drama Club stuff. Don't you dare cancel on me now.

[ I stand in stunned silence as Ella skips off. ]

((lighting cue- switch to dramatic spotlight))

[ I slowly adjust my bag and nervously walk out of the now empty hallway. ]

END SCENE.

SCENE 2-
SETTING: ROSELINE'S ROOM
CHARACTERS: ME, ELLA, and MY STUPID BROTHER

[ Scene opens with Roseline, me, on her bed. ]

[ Old photographs and posters of singers who I no longer like stare down at me. Lou's techno remix of a Broadway song plays in the background, muffled. ]

[ I grab my phone and call Ella. ]

((sound effect- the long, annoying, ringing of the phone))

[ Ella picks up, finally. ]

ME: Ella?

[ There's a moment of awkward silence. ]

ELLA: So, have you picked out tomorrow's outfit yet?
ME: How could you do this to me?!! I'm NOT READY to start talking to Henry yet!! I'm not even cool enough for him anymore! How the heck am I suppose to do this date-thing--
ELLA: It's not a date. I'm gonna be there, too.
ME: That's why I said it was a "date-thing".
ELLA: Okay, I guess you're not going to even thank me.
ME: I'M NOT READY!!
ELLA: Look, Rose, you can't wait until college to talk to him.
ME: That was the plan!
ELLA: Besides, it's not like you haven't chatted with him before. Remember when you were lab partners?

[ I sit up and take a deep breath. ]

[ In my head, I imagine Ella, smiling smugly on the other end. ]

[ And I know that she's right. ]

ME: You're right. *deep breath* I'm overreacting.
ELLA: Remember, 10:00! Be there!

[ I laugh a little ]

ME: Bye.

((sound effect- phone hangs up))

[ I put down my phone and head over to my dresser. Suddenly, the door opens. ]

[ Louise enters. He's grinning excitedly. ]

LOUISE: Hey, Rosie.
((annoyed)) ME: What do you want?
LOUISE: Guess who's going to pick and co-direct the next school play.
ME: You ALWAYS co-direct the plays.
LOUISE: It's different this time. You know how our last show kinda flopped?

[ I shudder, remembering that Shakespearian fiasco. ]

LOUISE: Well, since everyone is blaming Kevin for that, they've decided to let yours truly choose our next production.

[ Kevin, the "official president and director" of our Drama Club, is a huge Shakespeare nerd. A few months ago, he tried to do "Rome-eo and Juliet", an gladiator version of the classic play that takes place in ancient Rome. Needless to say, it was a complete disaster and got cancelled before we even reached our first dress rehearsal. ]

ME: So, what are you going to do? Phantom of the Dog-pra?
LOUISE: Hmm...too many special effects in that one.
ME: Okay, so something like The Music Mutt?
LOUISE: I guess that might work.
ME: Just make sure it's something cool. We've got to prove that Drama Club isn't lame!

[ Louise winces. ]

LOUISE: I know, I know...no more nerdy plays. We'll need something fresh, something risqué.
ME: Like RENT?
LOUISE: No. Too risqué.
ME: Well, get back to me later on it. I'm busy right now.
LOUISE: With what?
ME: Just homework and stuff. Now get out!

[ Louise leaves as I throw a slipper at him. ]

[ I go back to looking for tomorrow's outfit. ]

[ Finally, I pick out a dress. ]

Image
I think I'll wear this ^^^

((quietly, to myself)) ME: A new production...a "date-thing" with Henry. Oh, what am I going to do?
