Whiteleaf nodded slightly to Sagetail, watching the elder as she headed back towards the main area where the nests were. Sniffling, the medicine cat had just started towards the den entrance to wash his paws, when he heard Ashenpaw's tired mew. "Hello Ashenpaw! Sleep well?" He mewed before continuing out the den, a flick of his tail signaling that he wished for her to follow him

Flamekit blinked and looked at them curiously. "Oh." He meowed simply. He wasn't overly kind when he was tired, and he had been out of the camp for most of the night. He padded over to a mossy area of the nursery and curled up. He fell asleep fairly easily.

Flint glanced at the other cats that were huddled and he slipped silently out from the crowd, heading towards Moonpaw. As he got closer to the apprentice, he meowed, "Do you want to go out and hunt? I don't feel like hanging around in this camp for long."
He had guessed that Moonpaw didn't want to either as he sat down. Curling his tail around his paws, Flint started to lick his chest fur as he noticed it was ruffled.

(Excuse me while I admit I messed up and go back and change all the times I referred to Whiteleaf as a she into a he...)

Ashenpaw nodded slowly, still slightly sleepy. "Yes, I slept well... What did Sagetail want?" She mewed, shaking her head and following her mentor as she left the den. "YOu should have woke me up... I could have helped you out." She smiled sweetly. "That is my job, isn't it?"

Whiteleaf lets out a faint purr at her answer. "Thats good. Sagetail had stepped on a thorn is all, her back paw having slipped from under her caused some irritation in her bones. Nothing serious," he assures before answering her statement. "Oh it was no problem my dear apprentice! Sleep while you can. Though... You can tell me how you would have helped Sagetail in my place?" He offers, casting a quick glance over his shoulder before focusing forward again. He found it odd that the dawn patrol hadn't left yet, though he shrugged it off before slipping out of the den and into the pines.

Ashenpaw stopped to think about it for a second. "Well, the first thing to do would be remove the thorn, so that it doesn't get infected..." She replied slowly, trying to think through every action. "IF we left the thorn in there, the cut could get worse, and any problem caused by the injury would also worsen..." She kept walking into the forest, following close behind her mentor. How can I help with the bones? Irritation... The cat is just old... She smiled. I need to fix the pain though... "I could then give her daisy leaves... It might help with the sore joints..."

Whiteleaf nodded once to assure Ashenpaw that he was indeed listening. His white fur stood out quite poorly in the shadowy areas under the thick pines, which was one reason why he opted to be a medicine cat other then warrior. His fur just stood out too much. Upon reaching the river, he dipped one white paw into the cold water, shivering as the water ran over his paw. "Daisy Leaves? Yes. That is one way, but what is the other? What else must you do to the thorn?" He urged, lifting his one paw out of the water only to dip the other one in.

Ashenpaw watched as Whiteleaf dipped his paw into the water. Has she forgotten something? She took the thorn out, and treated the pain. She looked slightly confused and sat back, trying to figure out what else she needed to do. He ears slowly went back as she failed to think of something. Mousebrain, come on... It has to be something obvious! What is it...? She whimpered slightly, looking at her mentor with a look of desperation. "I-I..." she stammered, trying to get the words to form in her head. "I forgot that I need... I needed to..." SHe sighed. "Oh, I'm useless at remembering all these things... What did I forget?"

White leaf could barely contain his purr of amusement as his apprentice struggled. It really was something small, but it turn turn into something larger if forgotten. So, after a moment, paws now clean of the herbs he had touched earlier, he turned and sat staring at his apprentice. Poor thing was thinking quite hard too... So, at her question, he finally purred. "You need to clean the wound silly. At least lick the area where the thorn had been clean, and even add something to stop infection if you deem the need. I did, simply because elders tend to have a harder time fighting infections then younger cats. It really just depends for herb use, but licking it clean is a must," he mewed. Such a small thing, if not done, could lead to a nasty infection

Ashenpaw whimpered slightly as she was told about what she had forgotten. It had been something like that? OF course, it broke the skin... It needed to be cleaned. It was something Whiteleaf made sure she did no matter how small of a cut Ashenpaw got. She shook her head. "I'm sorry... I completely forgot to clean it... I would have been treating some sort of fever within a week or two..." Sometimes she felt almost like she would make more harm than she would solve as a medicine cat. She wasn't like Whiteleaf, she couldn't remember what every herb did and who needed what to be used on them. Like you can't give a queen this, or a kit that... She shook her head again. "I would have killed SageTail."
