She looked around camp. She wasn't to close to Amberstar and she wanted to Change that.

Sunnygaze | Medicine Cat | Tagging, Batpaw, Petalpaw

Sunnygaze picked up the pace, trotting through the trees. She slowed as they distanced themselves from camp.

"We're going to the fields," she explained. "We'll be collecting goldenrod. I'll show you how to do it, it's fairly easy. I'd also like to get some one on one time with each of you. Is it alright if I call each of you into my den later today? If you think you'll be worn out, we can do it tomorrow."

She looked back at the two apprentices. She was truly torn between them. Petalpaw was eager and sweet. Caring seemed to be in her nature, and she had the drive to learn all the needed skills. But Sunnygaze feared Petalpaw didn't have the stomach for the darker side of the job.

Batpaw had more determination than any apprentice she'd ever seen. He had the drive, the toughness, and the knowledge to make an amazing medicine cat. He was logical, and wouldn't let his emotions get the best of him. But Batpaw was antisocial. He was snappy, and a loner. He'd need to learn to work with other cats if he truly wanted to be a medicine cat.

Silverclaw nodded. "Well, it's not just on likability. Though that is a factor," he said. "Who would you want to take over for you? Try to think of it like that. Which one of the candidates do you trust your clan to?"

As Sunnygaze led the two apprentices Petalpaw said to herself that she was going to do the best she could today and prove herself. As they were heading out of camp Petalpaw lightly brushed Batpaw's pelt. "Hey, " she said softly, "You know, I really think that you are different. But, in an awesome way! I know we both will do our best today." Petalpaw did not want to bother Batpaw anymore and continued after Sunnygaze. When the medicine cat explained what they would be doing, Petalpaw thought to herself, hey, this seems familiar... I think I have seen Sunnygaze carry that herb back to camp before. The apprentice listened carefully and was ready to learn how to collect goldenrod. Petalpaw nodded when Sunnygaze said that she would be meeting with them individually, and nodded. "Okay Sunnygaze."

I shook my head, a guilty look on my face."that's just it though...I want to trust them...but I know I wouldn't. Because I formed this clan, I know what a leader has to go through ever moment of their life to keep the clan from falling apart..but they don't. They might mess up and send my precious family to their doom." I murmured, stopping my walk.

Batpaw's whiskers twitched ever so slightly. I know how to pick goldenrod. It's one of the first things I was taught, besides binding a wound and while I wasn't fully taught all of the herbs needed to bring down fevers and cure illnesses, but I have the basics and a little side knowledge. Simply part the stalks, chew off the stalk as close to the plant root as possible... what I wasn't taught was dealing with other cats, and the true code of a medicine cat. But, why am I still here? She hasn't offered an explanation... maybe she will when she calls us to the dens. Needless to say, if it is for a nice chatter, that will be a- Suddenly, he was cut from his thoughts as a pelt brushed his. A soft, surprised hiss escaped Batpaw, barely audible but a hiss nonetheless. Once recovering from his initial shock, and he heard Petalpaw's words, he just stopped for a moment. I really think that you are different. But in an awesome way! Just the thing Petalpaw would say, the blind tom thought. Different.

Batpaw bit his bottom subtly yet hard, still refraining from saying anything - he simply nodded slightly, acknowledging that he'd heard Sunnygaze. I'm different, Petalpaw. Your but 10 moons old telling me this. To you, it's... 'awesome'... but to the rest of the world, it's not. The apprentice decreased his pace so that he was out of touching range from both Sunnygaze and Petalpaw, his large ears a little back now. I know that. I don't need you to tell me - and now of all times. Regardless, the ebony tom kept his maw steadfastly shut. But, in spite of all this, there are still things that can be learned to better the near future, regardless of what path is chosen. Perhaps Sunnygze has another method of obtaining the goldenrod that could prove to be more useful. And she may show us more herbs... herbs used for illnesses. Even if I don't obtain the position, this knowledge could still benefit me in the future - when a fight breaks loose and the medicine cat is minutes away, it could mean the difference between a life saved and not. And still, Sunnygaze doesn't seem too displeased...

Sunnygaze stopped when they arrived at the field. She looked over at the two.

"Alright. There's goldenrod growing at the field's edges," she explained, nodding in the direction of the flowering weeds. "Batpaw, you know what they smell like, correct?" She looked down at the two apprentices. "Collecting them is simply enough. Dig at the base, then chew through the stalk right where the color changes from green to white. Batpaw, you should chew right where the plant starts to get hard." She walked over towards the flowers. "Off to work!"

"Well, you've got to," Silverclaw said bluntly. "Amberstar, it's horrible, but you can't live forever. But you will have plenty of time to teach your deputy how to lead your clan. So don't worry too much about that just yet. Pick a cat that will make your life easier."

I was about to answer when i heard the voices of two cats quarreling further up ahead. "What is going on? Do you hear them Silverclaw?" I mewed, my eyes narrowing as my ears pricked. Without waiting for an answer, i burst into a run, my ears still pricked as i followed the voices to their owners location. I couldn't help but let out a sigh when i connected one of the voices to Ravenclaw's identity. "He's way to aggressive...and he's going to upset the wrong cat one of these days." I hissed softly, and pushed on a little faster. As i continued my sprint through the woods, i tried to think of what cat owned the other voice...i just couldn't put my tail on it. So it must be a kittypet.. That made a lot of sense, as Ravenclaw hated kittypets. Slowing to a halt when the two cats came into view, i called out to Ravenclaw. "Ravenclaw! Back up." I looked at him, and the message was clear: Hurt her and you will be picking ticks out of Sunray's pelt for moons. Turning my golden gaze onto the molly, who was clearly a kittypet, i smiled. "Hello. My name is Amberstar." I mewed.

the brown tom silently lay in the warrior's den, his tail curled, tightly around his muscular build. rumbleclaw's golden eyes opened, stepping out of the den, stretching his limbs out, his lips parting in a yawn. as he looked around, his eyes landed on the fresh-kill pile. he huffed, noticing it was a bit short on prey. his ears were up tall, trying to see if anyone was going to set out on a hunting patrol. rumbleclaw flicked his long, brown tail.

dewpaw lightly sighed as her friends walked off to train. she knew the training was important for them to be chosen to be medicine cat apprentice, but now she just was left in her mind. her head lay down on the green grass, closing her blue eyes.

the she-cat's tail slashed, ears pushed back farther and farther to her head with each word the tom spoke. she shook her head, turning around to the two-leg house she lived on. "it's not that far." she spat, looking as a female cat raced to the strange cat's side. she quickly backed up, her tail puffing up once more, watching her with bright green eyes. ".. i'm cookie." she said, quietly, tail flicking.
