xxx I wait outside of nix's cell. whether I meant to
or not, I hear how cruel julius was to the poor girl.
but instead of barging into the room, I wait for my
second-in-command to give me orders. a plan forms
in the most secret part of my brain. a plan anyone
could come up with, sure, but a plan that will be
put into action. tonight. I can not let her die.. I
must give her my blood in the place of her own. I
will get in serious trouble, sure, but I will not allow
her to die. the thoughts rush through my head. yes,
they are thoughts, but they can become reality.

xxx I turn the key to my car and listen as the engine
rumbles. I am headed towards the south end of town
to see if the shifters could have moved there.
unlikely, yes, but it is worth a try. buildings and
houses are a blur as I drive down the new york streets.
once I am a few blocks away, I park the car at a gas
station and walk the rest of the way towards the forest.
this is my first time on this end of town and everything
is new. sirens break out and are coming straight towards
the cornfields. a girl who is much younger than me looks
as if her life is on the line. she disappears into the fields.
moments later, a white figure flies high into the air. I
take out my radio and attempt to contact the scientists
at the lab. "kalli to base, a shifter has been spotted
near the southern edge of town, do you copy?" as I
wait for an answer, I walk closer towards the forest.
this shifter girl is alone.. are they all like that? my
mind races at the thought. it seems so weird for a
young girl to be on her own.. maybe she steals
food to survive.. maybe that is why the police
are after her.. questions. too many question.

Being used to the drawing of blood, she hardly flinched, but she plotted. Oh, if she ever got out, free of the drugs... His skin would split beneath her claws, his bones mashed beneath her hooves... she looked away from him, wishing for the millionth time she were more like her sister Alli... No, she couldn't even think of the others anymore... Perhaps, after he'd left, she might be able to nurse away the budding headache... She heard another scientist outside of the room, and almost groaned.

Franky laughed a little, "Yeah a couple of these are from the library.. I can't check out any books from there anymore. And don't worry, I'll be careful." she said, noticing the look on his face she asked, "Do you miss them?" most of the group didn't talk about their family.

Flynn smiled even wider at the Dhole's friendliness, continuing to scratch his head a few times when the canine had walked around him. “You're pretty nice, aren't you? You can't be wild, not with the way you act, can you?” He asked, standing up. “Would you like to go to town, boy? Maybe we can find your owner~!” Pretty much all traces of thought towards his original job were gone now and he looked a lot more happy than usual, even with the 'dog's simple presence. “That okay with you?”

Rather than stay flattened at this point, the Dhole's ears perked when he heard Flynn mention 'town'; that was exactly where he wanted to go, and boy, did he make it obvious. He whined softly and let his tail wag in a near-frantic manner, briefly rearing up to place a paw on Flynn's thigh before slipping off and just opting to lick his hand as if to say, "Of course it is!" It was a little awkward for Yuri, inwardly, to lick another human being(though, he wasn't considered human, was he?), but he made no regard toward it for the time being. His heart was thumping in anticipation at this point; so, if Flynn took him to town, Yuri would be able to find out just what was going on, right? Yeah, that's good. For the good of the group, and all... He was cozy, living in the forest and hunting every day, but wouldn't everyone be happier living in the city like all the other people? Wouldn't it be nice to live in a real house with air conditioning, electronics, running water... It was worth taking the risk, in his book. Now, if this human would just take him there already...!

"I wouldn't expect so. It isn't safe at all, and I'll be betting you have quite the fine built up," he replied, smile a bit wider in amusement at this point. "But..." Said smile faded a little when he heard her question, looking down briefly before his amber eyes met hers, and he nodded. "I was...happy enough, where I was. I'm glad I can put what I learned as a child to use here in the group, but...I still had a connection to my family," he answered, "and I miss them. It was a send-off we all witnessed. They knew it was either turn me in, or let me go, so...I suppose you can already guess which option they chose." He straightened a bit, smile present again in a contented manner. "I'm happy enough here, however. I can just hope that they're doing well, and assume that they're thinking the same for me. What about your family, Francine?" he asked.

The dark-eyed scientist deftly tied a strip of elastic fabric firmly around her upper arm before he wiped the juncture of her forearm with a sterilization pad, prepared the needle, and subsequently injected it, pulling back slowly on the end. Finally, as he drew her blood-a much smaller amount than the large amount he usually did, having made a last second decision to ensure that their subject survived the night-, Julius was silent, brow furrowed in a concentrated manner. He slowly slipped the needle free and pressed a small bit of gauze to her arm, setting the needle atop the much longer gauze pad he'd placed beside her on the floor. "...hm. There. I suppose that'll have to be my final blood draw from you for the night," he sighed, pulling the elastic free and slipping it back into his pocket. "Of course, I can't afford to let you die...so I suppose you may have solace in knowing you'll just barely scrape on by and make it to the morning." With that, he released his pressure on the gauze pad and picked up the needle, carefully carrying it back out of the room and locking it behind him. That was when he spotted Sara just outside the doorway, his eyes briefly narrowing. "I don't recall ordering you to come and observe," he remarked, but simply offered her the gauze-protected needle. "Take this to the experimentation branch, and bring the subject food afterward so her blood production will increase. We'll be moving on to the second subject soon enough," he said, voice firm and professional.

Franky smiled a little, "Franky," she corrected, "And mine was pretty rough as well.. I didn't say goodbye though.. I couldn't risk them knowing at all where I had gone." she said, "My mom really liked reading, as well."

Parody extended her arm, still staying turned away but knowing better than to even think of struggling with the hypodermic in her arm... taking even more blood, but no-where near the usual amount. As he spoke, she listened, and scoffed softly. "Ah, so merciful." She snarked. "I'd rather die, and you know that. I've said it enough." Her tone was quiet, but full of venom as she spoke. She heard him order the other to bring her food after taking her blood to the lab, and sighed slightly. Barely scrape by wasn't accurate. She'd make it, just fine, with sugar in her system to help her blood production... She longed to be able to curl up in her feline form, making laying down at least a little more comfortable, but seeing as how she could hardly move, that wasn't an option... She sighed heavily, and leaned her head against the wall.

Sniffing the air, she realized that the footsteps she heard belonged to Drakkon. Stepping out from where she had been hiding, she waved a small paw. She clumsily tripped through the sand, sinking to her upper leg.

Drakkon, hearing someone stumble, turned, and saw Jenna. "Hey." he barked, waving his tail. Seeing her sinking in the sand, he padded over and used his nose to help her out of it. "You okay?" he woofed, waving his tail slightly.

xxx startled by the sound of julius's voice, I jump out of my seat.
"very sorry sir! I meant only to receive directions from you!" I
say to him. he tells me of his plans and I nod. "yes sir" I
proceed to the lab, carrying the syringe of blood with her. when I was
little, blood had always made her queasy. but working in the lab, I
have become more and more used to it by the day. stepping towards
an analyzer, I place a few drops of blood into a petri dish. I place the
small dish into the analyzer and watch nyx's blood cells carefully. then
I poke the end of my finger with a sewing needle and allow it to bleed
over another petri dish for a few seconds. confident, I place the petri
dish with my blood in a nearby analyzer. I watch the two for more than
twenty minutes and see nothing. with a sigh, I write down the results
and collect the petri dishes once more. I place lids on each of them and
set off to find julius. I finally spot him and show him my results. "maybe
one of these days.." I whisper. only then do I notice the slight
difference in color between the blood samples. a confused expression
crosses my face as I stare at the two samples. "um.. sir.. is it just me
or..." a pause "are these blood samples different color..?" I ask julius.
