for many, many years, two packs of wolves have lived in complete harmony, living on the far sides of the large lake which supplies them with food and drink. every now and then, they had gatherings together to report and notify the other on possible areas where there was more food, and tips, and threats to both. but then, a few moons ago, one wolf from each pack received an omen from their ancestors;

the omen the wolf of the east pack received -
a shadow will cast over the land,
it's cursed disease spreading through,
red tides will stain the earth,
it's leadership, decaying, like a carcass of a crow,
the greed feasting upon it,
like maggots.

the omen the wolf of the west pack received -
light will shed through,
guiding the faithful
through these dark times.
but beware,
for those that seem
like close allies,
reveal their true colours,
and shake the balance.

even in that small time, there has been an terrible amount of unnecessary blood spilled. the two packs are now quarrelling over who has what part of the lake and territory surrounding, as the cold front has approached and knocked the life out of both packs, and with no sign of the harsh winter easing off, both the packs are forced to wonder;
should they leave this territory and seek for a new haven, or stay here and starve, or fight to death?

this stirred up more arguments, as the older generation claim the packs have resided in this territory for countless pawfuls of moons, and it would be terrible and a bad omen for leaving. due to the more senior, and experienced wolves debating over what to do, the younger are becoming more reckless and uncontrollable, with most of the older wolves spending most of their time arguing, the younger have no one to guide them and teach them of whats right and whats wrong, and have started to spark up rebellions and go against the packs' laws. they begin to hunt at the ranches, which the alphas banned due to the humans getting furious and in the end the result isn't beneficial for the packs. the balance and code begins to break, and some are the verge of their breaking point. as the younger are preying upon the humans' livestock, more and more traps are set up, and the world becomes a even more unwelcoming place, with death lurking in every corner. some of the wolves begin to break apart into their own small groups, such as ;
the rebels, or the die hards, or the weak. the alphas of both packs are enraged by this, and order their packs to return back together, saying this is a desperate time, and everywolf should stick together for eachother. but there is one who see's this event as a chance to strike, and more and more bloodshed and anger builds up. all of the canines must join together, and figure out what to do.
but how?

the pack's territory is a large, dense woodland, surrounded by an enormous lake and rivers intertwining throughout the forest. mighty, towering mountains overlook the forest, and snow covers the tips. you can find a few cabins dotted around the forest, and some ranches of the humans and their animals.
the lake is full with vast species of fish and birds, and small mammals to feast on. the quenching water draws in herds of travelling deer and elk, supplying the packs with food and drink. to the north of the lake, there lies The Great Oak, a mighty, towering oak tree that has been residing in the forest for generations, and some of the wolves recall their grandparents telling stories of how their grandparents told the story of how the oak had been just a sapling when their ancestors first arrived at the lake, over a hundred years ago (in human years).

every now and then, whenever the ancestors of the two packs
feel a sense of foreboding will cloak itself upon the unsuspecting wolf packs, they
come together and discuss whether to send an omen or prophecy to normally the
shaman(s) of each of the packs, but on odd occasions, the ancestors decide to show
the omen(s) or prophecies to 'regular' members of the pack, feeling they have a hidden
potential within them.

omen that the wolf of the west pack recieved
light will shed through,

but beware,

the two wolf packs are quite similar in some ways, but in others, are completely opposite. the west pack's territory is more swamp-like, and there isn't much in the actual territory, so the wolves have to travel quite a while to the lake and wait for the herds to swarm in, or trek further towards the mountainous terrain in search for food, and because of the swampy terrain, their territory is rather desolate, and hardly any animals walk into the swampy woods, which makes the west pack rather snappy constantly as they spend most their time hunting, but after decades of living there, they have grown accustomed to the thick, boggy forest, and some even have webbed paws. the east pack has lush foliage, and thick, dense forests, so they hardly ever go hungry, which stirs up rivalry with the four alphas of the two packs. the east's territory is quite beautiful, but this draws in unwanted visitors, such as other larger rival predators, and sometimes wolves, but, mostly humans and their pets, or just for walks. the alpha male of the west pack, seth, is rather viscous, sharp-tongued and violent, because he is angry at how the east pack seems to have everything going well for them, but the alphas of the east try and reason with him, explaining it isn't exactly easy for them, but seth doesn't pay attention to them, as normal. some of the elders of the packs get quite nervous around him, for whatever reason. a few wolves started to try to question them why, but shortly after, they were told not to travel through each-others territory to ask them questions, since sudden deaths began to rise, and more suspicion was shot at the west pack, but their reply was that they have been seeing more humans hunting nearby, and hearing gunshots. the east pack decided to uneasily stop the rumours and questioning, and a few months passed, and almost all of the wolves have forgotten about the suspicion.

in each pack, there is the alpha pair. they tend to support one another, yet in the west pack, there's no signs of that happening. seth is rather a cold, and hostile wolf, even to his own pack-members, and says he doesn't need anyone to help him. the alpha pair mostly are very close with the shaman(s) and betas of their pack, because they trust them to lead and protect their pack when they die or get killed.

the shamans of the packs are like the spiritual guides. at the beginning of every month, they travel to the meeting point, also known as the place of the spirits. the meeting point is a small, rocky overlook, with a tree, and it looks down at the valley where, when a wolf dies in the pack, their close friends or kin carry their body here, and bury it in the valley. the shamans sometimes howl at night there, trying to connect with the ancestors, seeking advice from them, or, sometimes just for comfort. they will also receive messages, from the spirits, to know who should be their follower (also called by the wolves as an apprentice), and follow in their paw-steps as a shaman for their pack.

every two-four weeks, both the packs gather their members and travel to the meeting place. they often share different tactics and tips on the best hunting places outside of each-others territory, and important news and announcements.

when the pack's ancestors arrived here, laws had to be set down and territory had to be marked so the wolves wouldn't bother the humans or any other balance. below is the list of the pack laws, in order of importance.

➵ do not kill another pack-member
➵ do not become mates with another wolf in the opposite pack
➵ do not hunt the humans' animals
➵ do not spy on the other pack
➵ do not abandon your ancestors, or they will abandon you
➵ do not turn your back on your pack
➵ do not become one with the human
