Charlotte | Reef Tribe | Tagging, Lydia, Elizabeth
Charlie awoke slowly, raising her head and wiping sand off her face. A wave crashed softly over her abdomen, causing seafoam to sizzle on the sand. She looked over at the other two mermaids, then up at the roof of the cave. Her stomach ached with hunger. She decided to slip away and find a conch for breakfast. Her tribemates wouldn't be too worried about her, it wasn't far to the nearest reef. Very quietly, she slipped into the water, taking a breath before she dived and began to swim. The water was always warm here, and she loved it. As she spotted the reef, she slowed. Several pilot fish whipped around her, and she let out a loud burst of bubbles in excitement, twirling in the water and watching them swim to keep up with her twisting body. She glanced up at the surface. Her lungs didn't ache yet, she wouldn't need a breath for quite some time. She dove down towards the deep, slowly swimming through the massive mountains of coral as she looked for a nice, big conch or lobster to eat for breakfast.
Ekene | Queen of the Lowcountry Tribe | Tagging Talia, Constella
When Ekene rose, the sky was still gray and the marsh around her cloaked in shadow. She laid in the mud for a while, watching as the darkness began to fade before finally giving up on sleep and slipping away from the others. She dived down into the water, looking for a cluster of oysters. She'd swam for at least a mile when she finally spotted a new one. Grabbing a rock from the seafloor, she began to smash at it, working to break it off the pillar. The sound scared away a nearby school of fish. She feared the others might worry for her, so she began to hum, a soft, haunting tune that travelled several miles through the water. It was enough of a song that the others would recognize it, but nowhere near strong enough to attract humans, or make them suspicious. It was a difficult thing to pull off, but Ekene had had centuries of practice. And a good degree of natural talent.
