I quickly finished up my meal, which had been half eaten by the time Hawk had said anything, and responded in a contented mew. "Well, consider it a good thing. It means our tribe is not threatened, and the lives of our families are not at stake." I smiled, licking my whiskers and standing back up. "I have to get back to my kits...they must be hungry." Padding back over to the nursery, i purred a little when i saw Stoneteller lick Coal's head. "Taken a liking to one of them? Want to keep him?" I chortled, swatting my tail playfully at Coal when he batted at my leg.

"Ewwwww." I squeaked when Stoneteller licked my head. When my mother came up and made that awful joke, i batted at her leg. I was not amused. "Mama! Your so mean!" All i got in response was a swat on the head from Glow, and a soft giggle from Stream. "You know what, i'm done here. Stream, you talk." Shoving my shy litter sister forward, i stalked into the nest and lay down, glaring at the others.

Moon that glows in the night sky
I swat Coal over the head. "Mama was only joking!" I gave an exasperated sigh as i turned away from Coal's glare and sat in front of my mother, staring up expectantly at her.

Water that runs through the stream bed
I trembled a little as i was shoved forward to sit in front of stoneteller. He was just so tall...."G-g-goodmorning Stoneteller." I stammered.

He purred deeply. "Sun, do you mind if I borrow Stream for a second? I want to show her something."

"BYE!" I called out as stream left.

I followed Stoneteller out of the nursery.

Stoneteller~Tom
He gently picked the kit up, and stalked over to his den, jumping up onto the overhang, and setting the kit down, motioning with his tail out to the camp. Taking in the view of the tribe coming to life.

I smiled as i watched Stoneteller bound away with Stream, already knowing that my kit would make a fine leader. "Ma---ther---MOTHER" I was jerked out of my thoughts by a very irritated Coal. Sighing, i turned my head to look at him. "What is it hun?" The small tom gave a pout before answering. "I'm bored. Find something for me to play with." Scoffing at his tone, i gave him a light cuff over the head. "That is no way to speak to your mother. You can find something yourself if you keep that up."

"Nonononononono, no need for that, i'm sorry!" I squealed, throwing myself at my mother so i could hug her. I could feel her chuckle rumble through her, its force shaking me slightly. "It's alright Coal...why don't you play with that feather." She mewed, and pointed at a stray one sticking out of our nest with her tail. Smiling, i slid off my mom and tackled the feather, acting as though it was an eagle. Glow soon joined in, and we battled the "bird" together.

"Die foul beast!" Coal shouted as i let out a war cry, both of us batting at the "eagle" with our paws, jumping on top of one another to get to the stray feather. This continued for a while before we both collapsed with exhaustion, having spent all the energy in our tiny bodies on playing.

I gave a gasp at the sight of the tribe before me, watching it slowly wake up. "It's amazing...its like all of us are one cat...all working together in harmony..." I spoke to Stoneteller, but didn't move my eyes from the sight before me.

"As you know, I'm growing rather old. And it's about time I picked an apprentice." He looked out across the cats smiling.

"It must be a difficult choice to make....i know i would have a lot of trouble, because you have to make sure the cat will guide the tribe in the right direction once you're gone, and they need to be firm but gentle..." I trailed off, thinking about all the things the apprentice must be. My mother always told me i was wise beyond my two moons, and i guess this moment was a proving piece of evidence for that statment.
