Separation
Creek blinked her yellow and brown eyes. the night was cold. the patrol had returned while she was asleep with a deer and a couple of rabbits. she had eaten the scraps when she woke up.
the rest of the pack was asleep, and the air was quiet. her eyes glowed sightly, helping her see better.
it was quiet, the only sounds being the soft snoring of her pack mates, bugs and night time animals scurrying about. every once in a while the huff from a deer or maybe a horse could be heard. creek opened her mouth and took in a breath of the cold, refreshing air.
she decided to groom herself. it took awhile but her ash stained pelt was now, mostly, its normal rich brown with black stripes. she started pulling the mud off her paws, the fur on the back of them tickled her nose. she shook her head and sneezed before going back and licking at her paws. they where hard from the many days work. she stared at the stars and watched them twinkle. she whimpered, missing her home for the first time since the journey began. she set her head on her paws. she didn't fall asleep for a while, but when she did it didn't feel that long. it felt as if she had only gotten to sleep when she was awakened by cracks of lightning. the entire pack shot up, fearing the same thin would happen.
it had become pitch black, creek could hardly see two paw steps in front of her. she could hear the frantic running around of her pack mates. she crouched down and slowly crawled her way forward. she eventually found a clump of tall grass and curled up. the sky rumbled more before she eventually fell asleep
when creek woke up the sky was brightening and she could see. she crawled out of the grass, which wasn't as tall as she had thought it was and looked around.
she whimpered and perked her ears, looking around worriedly.
here was the pack! the field they had slept in was empty. she glanced around again and saw a dark brown, almost black, shape moved. she quickly ran over to her alpha, who looked as surprised as she felt. he growled at her, but then stopped, as if he had no idea who she was, then realized she was part of his pack.
he barked at her, asking where he pack was.
she barked at him, saying she didn't know.
she sniffed around a bit, until she finally found their paw tracks. from what she understood, sniffing about more and finding out whose tracks where whose, it looked like the beta had managed to get everyone gathered up and led them somewhere.
she barked at alpha, saying simply what she thought had happened. she showed him the tracks and he started following them, creek right on his tail.
she didn't like being in such a small pack, she felt to uncertain and weakened. she kept close to her alpha, almost touching his short tail with her nose.
he barked reassuringly at her and continued farther, the sun slowly rising behind them
creek wasn't able to sleep. she felt too exposed. alpha had already fallen asleep.
she had laid her head on her paws, rolled about, but just seemingly couldn't get confey
eventuly she dozed off without realizing it, she seemingly just blinked and it was morning.
alpha was already awake and grooming himself, his dark chocolate brown pelt looking a little less black than the day before. she staid quiet and groomed herself, enjoying the company, atleast she had SOMEONE, and not the entire pack was gone. and the fox she was with being alpha made her feel atleast a tiny bit safer.
they where just about to continue following the rest of the pack when alpha started growling. he was looking strait at creek, his fur spiked up.
she was alarmed, and stared at him wide eyed. he lept at her and she quickly jumped aside. she shot up and looked at him, then relized it wasnt her he was growling at.
it was wolf.
a small pack, only about three members, had been behind her, and probally ready to pounce before alpha had lept at her.
she stared wide eyed as he was ripped to shreds, even though he fought bravley he was no match. she whimpered and started to run away. she didnt care about finding her pack, she only wanted to get far, far away from the wolves
