She looked up at her new owner, Rebecca.
Rebecca always talked to River like she was a human, too, and talked about her feelings.
River would respond, even though she knew her owner wouldn't hear English, but just her barking.
"So that's what I'm doing here, all by myself," Rebecca sighed.
River barked, but then rested her chin in Rebecca's lap.

Chase lied down, alone. He saw a human walk by him, and squat in front of his cage. He got up and walked to the man. As the man started to pet him, he licked his hand through the cage. "He's perfect," The man (Luke) mumbled. Another man behind him opened the cage, and Luke walked in and slipped a collar around his neck. He attached a leash to The collar and started walking out. "C'mon boy," He muttered, smiling. Chase followed after him, walking out of the cage. "I think I'll call you Chase." Luke said, petting him as they reached to parking lot. He walked to a car and opened the door. "Hop in buddy!" He muttered excitedly. I hopped in, sitting in the passenger's seat, as the man got in and started driving.

Rebecca continued rambling on and on about her past, but River loved it. River listened to Rebecca talk and watched Rebecca walk around.
Rebecca went to her coffee machine and started brewing some coffee and said with a laugh, "And look at me now, drinking coffee everyday and talking to a dog."
She smiled at River, "The best dog, mind you."
River barked happily.

They arrived at Luke's apartment. Luke opened the car door and Chase hopped out. Luke chuckled a bit and grabbed his leash. He walked inside, closed the door, and sat down. He unleashed Chase, and he imediatally started exploring, sniffing every inch of the place. "Well I see someone's curious," Luke chuckled.

River sat up and ran to the window, hearing a car door close. She saw Luke and Chase walking up the stairs.
Rebecca raised an eyebrow at River, "What is it, girl? What do you see?"
She walked over to peek outside the window. She saw Luke and instantly jumped back, "Girl! You got me staring out the window at a stranger."
She laughed a little, but blushed, "He probably thinks I'm a stalker."
River barked, cocking her head at her owner.
