Arluq was glad when her calf finally stopped her tantrum and quieted down. Skyla was quite a handful sometimes, but when the young orca was happy and content, Arluq almost wished that she would stay that way forever. Watching her calf swim ahead with a sudden burst of energy, she thought back to a time long ago when she was that young. The memories giving her a sudden burst of energy, Arluq sped ahead of her own mother, matching Skyla's youthful speed. Looking at the dead shark that undoubtedly sparked her daughter's burst of energy, she decided to pass up a bite from it , having been alerted to the larger hunt that was going on. Arluq swam up to her sister and Jinx as they battered an ice floe to get the seals that were on top of it into the water. She called to Skyla so that her calf would have a chance to practice her hunting skills on the agile seals. There were several of them, so even if her daughter was unable to catch one, there would be plenty to feed any of the pod members that were hungry.

Inuk powered to the surface for a breath, his large form momentarily leaving the water completely, only to crash back down as he completed the jump. Young and successful, he was fortunate to have found a female to mate with at this point in his life. Although he was mature, many males had to wait several more years to have their first chance to have a calf. He had left his pod the previous year to try his luck, and lucky he was. He had returned not long after his first calf was born, but now he was starting to get edgy again and didn't know how much longer he would stay with his birth pod before setting out once more.

Skyla hears her mother's call and spins around, darting back towards the ice floe just as it splits in two, seals spilling off either side. With a small squeak of surprise and then another one in excitement, she charges at the ne on the left. Instead of going straight at the seal she aims a little bit forwards, but predicted which way the seal would go wrong and had to adjust. The seals quick changes in direction makes it harder as she chases the seal, getting thrown off by being slower on the turns. When the seal swims up and hops onto an ice floe, Skyla leaps up after it. Her teeth bite down on the tail and her weight breaks the edge of the ice, slipping the predator and prey back into the water. The seal manages to swim off- blood streaming back from the bite on it's tail and it's ace a good bit slower- while Skyla lets out a frustrated head bob, upset that she got so close to actually taste the prize, before the seal got away. She quits her tantrum after a second or two and takes off after the seal again. With the injury it should be easier.

As Alla gets closer she can tell that the animal is a shark, so she's glad for not calling Chazi forward. With a warning cry to the rest of the pod she swims forward at the shark, not caring when it turns to head in the opposite direction. The shark was close to her baby and no matter the intent it had, the beast wouldn't get away. Alla swims closer and smacks it hard with her tail. When the shark flies up into the air she feels a surge of pleasure. The shark slams into an ice floe before slipping back into the water, sinking slightly since its so dazed. Alla let's out another call to her pod, thi done telling them that there's dinner, before backing off back towards Chazi. The mother isn't terribly hungry, but after seeing a predator she needs to check on her calf or she'd go insane with worry.

Aumanil | Pod Matriarch |42 years old | Tagging Jinx

Aumanil watched Skyla as she attempted to hunt the seal. She was doing well for her age. She was sure the young orca would grow to be a wonderful hunter. She loved her niece dearly. She looked up at the other seal and rushed forward, seizing it in a single, expert bite. She shook the seal until it stopped moving, then took a bite and backed away. Blood blossomed in the water. The scent would draw other predators, but Auma wasn't too worried. Only an idiot would attack an orca pod.

Krila let out a loud, playful screech, racing forward. A stream of bubbles flowed from her blowhole. She almost crashed into Inuk, but swerved out of the way just in time. She let out a happy cry, clicking at Inuk to see if he wanted to play too.

Chazi

Chazi watched as a his mother darted forward. Chazi would slowly swim behind, letting out a curious whistle. After a few seconds he realized it was a shark! The little calf would let out a squeal like sound before sprinting forward to his mother's side. Chazi dipped his head as if to say that he was alright, before giving her a nudge with the tip of is "nose". The calf watched as the pod started to peck and take bites out of the shark. Chazi stayed behind. He wasn't that hungry, so the shark wasn't something he would want to eat for now.

BTW, this is my last post. Starting tomorrow, I will be gone for camp. There isn't any wifi there so :I I will post when I get back!!!)

After Chazi noses her and is safely by her side, Alla relaxes again. She's extra sensitive about Chazi since he's her first calf, so she still holds back from the feeding to be near her son. Alla doesn't mind not getting any shark to eat, there's plenty of food around for her later and she still has enough milk for Chazi. With a contented and mellow song she noses her son before swimming a little away from the shark, giving the rest of her pod access to the food..

Karlua surfaced to get a breath of air before diving again. The hunt had been fun, but she was ready to explore again. She decided to jump, landing on her side back into the water.

The seal had begun to swim in the direction of the older orcas, so Skyla let it go, figuring one of them could catch her injured prey. She had enough practice for today. Instead she swims up to Karlua and bumps the other orca with her nose, letting out a series of clicks that mean, "Let's play!" before racing off in a mostly downward path.
