Thunderpaw felt guilty, he wanted to go out there and join Batpaw and Nightpaw in being scolded. However, he did not want to get caught listening in on their conversation. He knew that Bearstar knew he was there and was addressing him too.

Nightpaw stepped forward. "Don't be mad at Batpaw! It was my idea and I dragged him with me. You shouldn't blame him for anything, and after that he helped Firefly." she mewed, even though it all wasn't true. Going hunting was actually their all idea but she didn't want Batpaw to be blamed.

firefly twitched an ear, having come back to camp before. poking his head out of the medicine den, he rushed over to where nightpaw and batpaw were, staring straight at bearstar. "ah sorry, but they were with me. I needed help collecting some moss and herbs for the new bedding as we'd run out,"

Solsticetalon nodded and turned his gaze back to Creekpaw. "So what will it be, lose some fur and possibly die. Or leave unharmed?"

batpaw's mouth flew open in disbelief. she thought he was lying about the whole thing. lowering his head, he actually felt something prick at his heart. you'll be held back from being a medicine cat many, many moons. the ebony tom's voice looked at bearstar for a long time with those filmy eyes that had gotten filmier. she thought he was lying. after all he had done to try and help this clan and dusty. before batpaw could even try and tell justify any of this, nightpaw suddenly spoke. trying to defend him. then firefly came. the ebony tom couldn't help but let his whiskers drop. he had to thank his mentor for trying to solve this mess, and nightpaw for trying to help as well. both of them deserved a big hug.

but it hurt the leader didn't believe him. bad. and batpaw was very angry still. thunderpaw was still just frozen. she knows your there. just come on out already... firefly's trying to cover for us. come on out or you'll ruin it all. all guilt conscience was gone from batpaw. he'd told the truth- he hadn't said they'd left with firefly, but that they had run into him shortly. and she didn't believe him? i work my tail off helping as much as i can. i mess up one time and i get all of this mousedung? i know something is wrong with you, bearstar, and i'm going to find out what.

Thunderpaw glared at the ground, Batpaw and Nightpaw would be rather angry if they knew he was hiding here. But he wanted to know why Nightpaw was so infatuated about Batpaw and so couldn't blow his cover.

Nightpaw blinked her eyes thankfully to Firefly. She then noticed Thunderpaw. She tilted her head with a questionable gaze in her eyes.

firefly twitched an ear toward nightpaw to show he acknowledged her thanks. "i asked them to come out and meet me just inside the forest," he continued slowly. "they were with me the entire time. and i'd just like to ask, bearstar, did you seriously just doubt your clan's next medicine cat? that's dangerous, and even you know it,"

creekpaw braced himself, hissing angrily. "i'd rather die, but i seriously doubt i will," he mewed. "i think it'll be you who's dead by the end of this,"
