"Morning, Emory. Time for your meds."
The little boy looks up, knees pulled to his chest, rocking slowly. He reaches his hand out slowly and grabs one paper cup from the nurse first, downing the pills and grabbing the other cup, chasing them with water.
"Sam came to me again. We played hide and and seek this time." He smiled up at her.
"That's great, Emory." The nurse said gently, but doubtfully.
"He told me he had to leave. But...I think he'll come back. This has happened before. I love him..." The little boy pulls his legs back up to him, resting his chin on his knees. "And he loves me. And...he promised. He always promises."
"I'll get the doctor." She murmured as she turned around. She took one step then stopped, feeling a little hand on her ankle. She looked back, alarmed. Emory is humming, rocking back and forth, staring at the white floor. She leaves in a rush.

I'll melt that cold shoulder right off of her.

We're meant to be, I swear!

"Oh, Analise," Mais announced. "come here, please!"

{Every breath she takes makes her less alive}

"Uh, alright Mais. One moment please..." Analise struggled to collect herself. Her eyes were still red as she padded over to the door. Glancing half-heartedly at the lock, she noticed it was still unlocked. "It's unlocked Mais, just come in..."

Shooting through the door at lightning speed, Mais hit the table. It was so like him.

{At each glance at his hopeful eyes, she dies a bit inside}

"So, Analise," he said, still half hunched on the floor. "There's something I wanted to ask you."

{That suave mindset comes too easily for him}

The woman swooned a bit more before scrawling her number on a napkin. Picking it up and stuffing it into his pocket, Jacques twirled his barstool towards the bartender.

"'Notha drink, Jackies?"

"No, sir. And it's Jacques."

{Somethings gotta break, gotta take that mindset away}

"Whateva," the man remarked. Feeling a bit warm, Jacques bopped off of the barstool and headed towards the door. The bartender yelled something along the lines off "you've got to pay", but Jacques ignored it, like usual. Pushing it open with his hand, he shot outside. The cool air hit him like a brick. Puffing as he scooted towards his car, he couldn't stop thinking of the only girl there who wasn't interested in him. Analise, was it?

Eh, who cares. He's got all the girls in the world.

"So," Mais started. "Didja have fun, Analise?"
His expectant eyes were too much. Analise blinked slowly and swallowed hard.

"Uhm, yeah. Yes, Mais, I had fun." She measled out a smile.

{He's too naive for his skin}

"Great! Hey, uhm, Analise...?"

Analise, caught up in her thoughts, didn't hear Mais.

{His spirit's gonna break, he's gonna lose it}

"Analise?"

"What, Mais? What? Why do you always do this? You--you just have to need me so badly! I... I can't do this. Get out."

"But, Anali--"

"Mais... Please, don't prolong this. Okay?"

{Snap. Crackle. Shock}

Wandering down the road, Jacques couldn't help but wish for a lifelong partner. It was so unlike him to actually need someone, nonetheless want anyone near him. He was such a smooth-talking guy. He never had any real guy friends, except, for well--

That one guy.

Whose girlfriend he stole. Yeah, him.

In the end it was a bad idea, but details are unnecessary. Squinting in the moonlight, Jacques tried to remember any details. Unfortunately, they were all very vague. He was an exchange student, venturing from France. Mais was a quaint little boy--

Mais! Ah, that was his name...

Mais was a quaint young man. He immediately tackled Jacques on the playground {accidentally, of course--it was so like him} and after it, he insisted that Jacques, or Jackies {his nickname, even though his name is pronounced more like 'Jack'}, play kickball.

Jacques only offered a cold refusal, but Mais didn't lose his spirit. Seemed like that lil bugger never would, too.

{He's gotta get that confidence back, the one that gave him the ability to love}

Every now and then, he'd feel a strange pang of guilt. Thinking back on it, Jacques wished he never did that. He wanted needed a true friend.

The tears seeped willingly from her eyes. It was so hard. Refusing such a gentleman like Mais--he only wished to make her happy, to bring joy to her somber life. But like always, she had to give him the cold shoulder. Mais even brought her to where they met, so, so many years ago when their parents were still alive and friends: the local pub.

Trying to blink the years of tears away, she thought of everything that happened at the bar. Scanning through her thoughts like a photo frame, she came to one and stopped.

The smooth gent who wouldn't leave her alone... Jack, was it? Sniffling, she recalled his wink and winning smile.

{It's a steep ways down from heaven, shug}

Perhaps she could find him again. Something about him made her want to burst like a water balloon. To just come out with what she thought and wished and desired.

Is that why she yelled at Mais?

{But it's an even steeper way up}

“Following you? Of course not, sweety." I responded, that mischievous grin still on my face, which ticked off the she-wolf even more. I then proceeded to move in even closer. With my head held high, I jumped up onto the large rock, the same rock Green eyes was resting on. She wasn't all too pleased about that... The she-wolf let out a vicious snarl, that was so deep and full of hatred... I didn't think it could come from a beautiful little thing like her.

She was obviously angry, but the next few words she said hit me like a ton of bricks... “Listen, pretty boy. You are not as handsome as you think you are, you need to get it through your thick skull, that some girls might not like you.” She paused, shaking her head. “The girls back in that clearing of yours are swooned over you because they are brain-washed by your flirts, by the affection you give them. Not to mention they are airheads. They are dumb, snobby, 'sparkle dogs'.” Her voice was cold, and each word seemed to stab me right in the heart, making it break more and more... “Being proud and cocky because those kinds of dogs love you is just pathetic. Why am I even wasting my time talking to a jerk like you? Just... just leave me alone. You aren't 'hot', you are just annoying.” With that, Green eyes stood up with a huff and lept off the rock, barely making a thud as her gorgeous little paws hit the forest floor.

She trotted away, her head held higher than mine. She was confident, but her confidence was the good kind. My confidence wasn't so good, because it was fueled by cockiness and those she-wolves' love back in the clearing. But that wasn't true love. They just wanted me for my... my looks. Not because they actually loved me.

I spent that night sitting alone on the edge of the clearing, watching those she-wolves who Green eyes had called airheads. I watched them chat together in their small, tightly-knit circle... I wanted to know what Green eye's true name was, and I also thought about all that she had said. ”You are not as handsome as you think you are...” It stuck with me like a scar. Usually I could just brush off insults like that... but why couldn't I do it now?

I didn't want to believe it myself... but deep down I knew it was true. I didn't just like Green eyes, I loved her... I didn't just pretend to, or flirt with her for the kicks like I did with those other she-wolves. No... I loved her... I truely loved her.
