A Soulbug

A soulbug is a large insect about the size of a pear. Each person has one, and each's wings are a different mosaic of color and spirit. The creature appears when its person has their first near-death experience. (Some people never meet their soulbugs.) Their person can speak a special 'language' with them, and some couples who have been together a long time can understand each other's soulbugs.
