~Training Day One~

It took quite a long while, but I've done it. I've finally gotten my new AW, Veilyn, transported to my house. Er, well, outside my house, at least. She appears to be extremely fearful of me, which might be due to things that happened in her past. That also might be why she has so many scars... Just thinking about what could've happened to her sends shivers up my spine, so I'm dead set on making sure she gets the care she needs. "Veilyn?" I call, my voice a somewhat loud whisper so I don't scare her. After waiting about a minute, a shy, purple-furred head peeks out from around the back of my house. I kneel down, much like I do when calling a cat. "Here, Veilyn," I call softly. "It's alright." I continue, though Veilyn hardly takes a step towards me. I need to get her in the water... Hmmm... Ah-hah! I think, getting an idea as to how I'll get Veilyn into the enclosure I had built specifically for the use of AWs. It's pretty big, having it's own pool, resting area, sleeping area, and anything else an AW could possibly need. Carefully, I back away and head to the pool. My only other AW, Aquilla, usually hangs out there, and she was required for my idea to work. I find her swimming around in the deeper area, to my pleasure, so I call out to her. Happily, she swims over to the edge and looks up at me. "Good evening, Aquilla." I smile and pat her on the head. "Could you do me a favor and... Um, make your presence known?" I ask. She looks confused, but dives under the water before leaping back out, flipping in the air before coming down. I hear a dragging noise, and when I turn around, I see Veilyn dragging herself over. I give her space as to not frighten her, and watch as she makes her way into the pool. I wish I could've helped, but she wouldn't let me get close enough. From here, I can see that she and Aquilla are already becoming acquainted, which is a good sign. Veilyn reminds me of myself... Covered in scars and shy. This should make her easier to care for, I guess. I should probably let her and Aquilla "talk", so this concludes my first report.

~Training Day Two~

I wake up this morning to find that Veilyn and Aquilla are already friends, which is a lot of progress already. Now that that's all sorted out, I should start trying to lessen her fear of humans. How? I'm honestly not entirely sure, but food might be able to help. Cautiously, I walk over to the enclosure, though Veilyn still spotted me quickly. Cautiously, she starts swimming away. I sigh before saying my usual "good morning" to them. I then step into the large, enclosed area before walking over to the also large pool that made up most of it. I sit on the edge and whistle for Aquilla. Veilyn seems like the following type, so why not try to coax her over by having Aquilla hang out around me. It takes Aquilla a few seconds to swim over, and I give her a few pets before feeding her. After I finish, Aquilla makes a few motions to Veilyn, most likely trying to tell her to come over, or something like "it's fine." Veilyn moves towards me hesitantly, to my surprise, but stops half way there. To get her to come the rest of the way, I resort to using the calamari I brought with for training purposes. Veilyn does come over, though she does for just the amount of time she needs to get the calamari and swim off. I know i'm supposed to be training her not to live off of calamari, but I can't really do that if she won't come near me, so I suppose i'll tackle that issue another day...

~Training Day Three~

Today, I wake up a bit more depressed than usual, so I expect my training efforts to be "lacking" a bit. I walk over to my AWs' enclosure, and throw some fish in for them to eat. I soon realize that was a mistake, because Veilyn is terrified of fish, and that's why she doesn't eat right. "Whoops..." I mumble, hating myself a bit for making such a stupid mistake. Aquilla sees her friend's distress, so she ends up eating all the fish, causing Veilyn to calm down. Hmmm... I think to myself ways to escape this predicament. After a few minutes of bad ideas, I decide to try tomorrow and just work on her fear of people. Over night, I came up with a bit of a plan; just hang out in the pool until she sees I am not a threat. Hopefully, she'd get used to me quick. I sigh and climb in; I was already in my swimsuit, so I don't have to worry about my clothes getting wet. As expected Aquilla swims over, so I pet her a few times as I normally do. I suspect I'm going to end up playing around with Aquilla most of the time, and if it comes to that, I can only hope that Veilyn will muster up the courage to join in.

~Training Day Four~

I made a bit of progress yesterday, and by progress, I mean, Veilyn actually swam near me. After looking over her adoption papers, I discovered that she loves pups. I think I might be able to use this fact to my advantage, so I recently adopted two PPS AW pups, whom I've named Sugar and Spark. The two are in a pool beside the main enclosure right now, because I want to make sure they get used to the water, seeing as pups are pretty sensitive. I'm heading outside to put them in the main enclosure now, and I'm going to make sure Veilyn knows that I brought them. Perhaps then she'll trust me. "Sugar? Spark?" I ask quietly as I reach my destination. The two punk-ish AWs look up from their nap, and upon seeing me, they look excited. I smile before pulling a lever, opening the door to the main enclosure. To my luck, the twins swim right in, and Veilyn definitely saw me open it. Upon seeing the pups, she looked overjoyed, which meant I did well. Thankfully, Sugar and Spark are playful, and they didn't find it strange at all when Veilyn started lavishing them in her affection. Aquilla was obviously tired from doing tricks all day yesterday, so she simply watched contently. Carefully, I crept around and fed her, before placing pieces of squid in some food bowls I had recently put out. Why squid? Well, squid by itself is a lot healthier than calamari, and since Veilyn is scared of fish, I really had no other option. After this, I proceeded to wade into the water of the enclosure, just like I did yesterday. To my surprise, Veilyn comes over and rubs up against me before swimming back to the pups. I think my plan might actually be working after all...

~Training Day Five~

I think I might have cured Veilyn's fear of people! Well, of me, at least, which is all that matters at the moment I guess. As for my experiment with the squid, it was overall a success! Veilyn is absolutely fine with uncooked squid, but I can tell she'd rather have calamari... Oh well, I'm sure i'll be able to fully resolve that issue later. Right now, I need to get her used to all people not just me, and I need to work on one of her fears I only discovered this morning. Veilyn is apparently afraid of birds. I don't know exactly how i'm going to fix that, but I promise i'll try. I'm really busy, so I can't do much with my AWs today, but tomorrow I should have more time.

~Training Day Six~

Due to complications (and Sugar and Spark's mischief), I ended up getting locked in the enclosure all day. Thankfully, I was able to feed everyone, as it had been feeding time when the incident occurred. Anyway, I took this as an opportunity to train Veilyn a bit more. I worked on her fear of birds mostly, but only made a little progress. I also checked up on how her diet was going, and to my pleasure, it's actually been going pretty well. Yes, she still whines for calamari a lot, but at least she tries to eat healthier now. I'm realizing I may have been a bit to cocky bg saying she got over her fear of me, because I accidently spooked her about twelve times. After all these incidents, I figure in going to have to try a bit harder. I think I would've been able to cure her fear of fish to an extent if Sugar and Spark hadn't been throwing the fish I brought around. Now I think poor Veilyn is even more terrified than before... I'm going to have a lot of work to do tomorrow...

~Training Day Seven~

Today I didn't deal with any issues, thankfully. Well, issues with myself that is. Veilyn is still pretty jumpy around things she dislikes, but as long as she is, i'll be trying to help her. Anyway, today to my surprise, Aquilla decided to jump in on Veilyn's training. By that, I mean, at some point in the day when I wasn't around, she decided she was going to try and teach her friend that the fish I try to feed her on occasions are harmless. I think it was going well until I showed up and spooked the two on accident, so I guess that counts as progress? The actual training I did revolved around her two other fear and diet, as usual, though her dieting seems to be going back to normal as it should for her now that I have a specific limit on the calamari I give her. That being said, yes, I still give her calamari once in a while, but I don't allow her to have it every day. I hate to be stern, but it's for the best, I suppose... Her fear of birds doesn't seem to be improving yet, which is a bit of a bummer, but I suppose fears don't go away as quick as I wish they would. Maybe I can try and get a friendly bird around her... That might help... Either way, I'll be reporting back tomorrow with anything new I find out.

~Training Day 8~

I don't have much time to type, but I can happily say that I did make a bit of progress. To get over her fear of fish, Veilyn needed to know that they were harmless. As I though about this earlier today, I got an idea that was sure to help her out. I got a small tank, and filled it with goldfish, and though it took quite a while, I got Veilyn to stick her paw in. Upon seeing the fish swim away in fear, she looked confused, but I could tell she was still frightened. Something tells me that at some point in her life, she must've met one mean fish if she's as afraid as she is. For a few hours we went through this process; every five to ten minutes, she would put her paw in the tank, and the fish would swim away. It didn't cure her fear, but I think it's helping. Anyway, onto her fear of people. Due to the amount of time I spend with her, I think I one hundred percent cured her fear of me. Other people, as I discovered today, is a different story. A friend came over and poor Veilyn hid the whole time. I have a lot of work to do...
