I'm hoping this doesn't mean there's something wrong with her or if it's just natural. Our other dog was barking at her though, anyone know why she could have been howling? Other then the fact she has been trying to get inside the house.
Is she showing any signs of aggression? Majority of dogs in pain will show some sign of aggression. Any physical signs of injury? blood? Limping? She might be hungry so maybe give her some food if you haven't already. She's most likely just scared and nervous. All you can do is make her stay with you as comfortable as possible until she is taken to the vets or rescue centre. Its unlikely she's injured a lot so don't worry too much about that. If she has injuries, I am sure they are just minor.
Apparently she was dumped. We checked around to see if she belonged to anyone, but f we does then it's pretty unlikely we would find them since we live in a pretty rural area. She hasn't been aggressive at all and she doesnt seem injred, though she does have a few marked up places. She is very sweet although she definitely has been trying to get in our house, in which we can't let we because she just sheds to much. We fed her already though. However, when we were swimming in our pool, she kept whining and walking around. We are assuming that she is hot as she doesn't seem injured or anything. And

how do we keep her from jumping up on us? We do think she has some herding breed in her, but she keeps jumpin up and lickin/nipping people. She may be excited, as we have been away for a week or two (we had someone feed and water her while we were gone) but at this point, if she is lost we won't find her owners and we MIGHT keep her if we can't find her a home, but the jumping up is getting really annoying.

Well if she was dumped, I wouldn't even waste my time looking for the owner. If the dog was dumped, then the owner obviously doesn't want her and it seems like if she has a lack of manners and is seeking attention then she most likely didn't get any in her old accommodation. If its warm enough outside for her then its ok if she stays outside but it's clear she just needs some attention and possibly a brush up on her training. Try with treats to command her and see what she knows. Get to know her, and she might even calm down. Every time she jumps up, push her down and tell her "no", hopefully she'll get the idea that she needs to stay down. Remember there is only positive rewards, never negative. Give her time, don't ignore her. Basically she needs some loving and attention. You need patience with her, she's had a hard life by the sounds of it. If you and your family aren't able to do this, then do try rehoming.

It's likely we will keep her maybe, but if we don't we aren't just going to dump her, we would get her a good home. She definitely needs attention, but we learned that she was already taught basic commands such as stay, sit etc. I think she is probably just excited as we got home yesterday, and she is starting to calm down a little

thanks. Now I just have to convince my dad seeing as he is the one who doesn't really like dogs

I would still try and find the owner its alright assuming she was dumped but she could just be lost. Dogs have been none to wounder miles if they are confused and lost, and just think if there is in owner looking and you just keep her with out even trying to find them. I would get in touch with a shelter and say you have a stray and ask for them to look make flyers and put an add in the paper or on a website. If noone gets in touch its safe to assume.
Just don't be quick to take in a stray with out looking for an owner.

Don't worry, we aren't just assuming she is dumped. There is a very small town a few miles away, and we have been asking around, but other then there, the only towns are hours away so it's unlikely she wandered that far. We also found her standing on the side of the road in the same spot for days

we fed her and the next day she showed up at our house.

She could still have got lost I've seen stories of dogs walking days to get back to old homes after they have moved there is one of a dog who traveled two states to get to his owner after she left him at a kennel to go on holiday.
Also if you fed her how did she follow you home. The dog warden could have picked her at anytime if she was on a highway. I would still get in touch with the larger cities just to make shore.

I agree that the dog should be checked, maybe its got a micro chip which the vets can check for. Plus check local facebook groups, local stores etc to see if the dogs been lost locally. If you feel the dogs not from around the area, check the closest cities, towns etc for any signs of a missing dog similar to her description. Its nice that you are actually looking after the dog though Macdisney123.
