just wanted to ask if anyone who uses veer fonts in image/edits actually purchased the license?

i mean, copying and pasting the sample font is one thing, but physically saving the font and using it, even for non-commercial purposes?

i generally only use those "free-to-use" fonts (fonts in my sig), as i know that this is a big issue (I think Veer claims to fine 20x the value of it's property)

i was reading and stumbled upon this:
    You acknowledge and agree that any and all information, material, products and services, including data, databases, graphics, text, files, software, interfaces, web pages, product names, company names, trademarks, logos and trade names contained on the Web Site (collectively the “Content”), including the manner in which the Content is presented or appears and all information relating thereto, are the property of Veer, its licensors or third parties, as indicated.

    Content found on the Web Site is protected under patent, copyright, trademark, proprietary or other intellectual property laws of Canada, the United States and other applicable jurisdictions, and any unauthorized use of such Content may violate such laws or this Agreement. Except as expressly provided herein, no license under any patents, copyright, trademark, proprietary or other intellectual property right is granted or implied by granting access to the Content. Veer reserves the right but not the obligation to restrict or remove Content from the Web Site for any reason, and you agree to immediately discontinue all use of the Content upon notification from Veer.

    ...

    You may use the Content solely for personal, informational, and internal purposes;

    You may not bundle, sell, license, sublicense, export, transfer, loan, rent, lease, assign, share, outsource, host, publish, distribute, part with possession or make available to any person, the Content, or any part thereof;

    You may not copy, edit, modify, adapt, create derivative works, translations, adaptations or arrangements, republish, transmit, merge, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Content, or any part thereof;

    ...

    You may not alter, remove, or destroy any proprietary markings, or confidentiality legends, or notices placed on, or contained within, the Content; or

    ...

    4. Use of Comping Image in an Unauthorized Manner:

    a. You agree that use of a Comping Image in any unauthorized manner constitutes an infringement of the rights of Veer, its licensors or content providers or third parties, and you agree to pay an access fee equal to twenty times (20x) the normal license fee for the use of each and every Comping Image used in an unauthorized manner. This fee serves as agreed upon liquidated damages and not as a penalty

I go to 1001fonts.com for my fonts and use any for my signatures/avatars (Though there was one I got from another website - can't remember what it was called.). Some you probably have to purchase or agree to something or other, but otherwise, yeah.

If I'm reading this correctly, the GIF FAQ can probably solve your questions. ^-^ (most likely the last question)

I go to 1001fonts.com for my fonts and use any for my signatures/avatars (Though there was one I got from another website - can't remember what it was called.). Some you probably have to purchase or agree to something or other, but otherwise, yeah.

    It basically means you can use the font for self use (Such as fancy fonts online in forums or making little self things and such that gain no profit)
    But, you cannot use these fonts for signatures, commercial work, etc etc.
    This is basically because you are gaining money or some form of payment on something you didn't create.

    If you really want to go that far, most signatures on CS would be illegal; hell, most signature shops on CS are illegal because of 'x' and 'y'.

    Using material from 'x' anime for instance, cutting it up and then selling it for your own profit in the real world would land you being sued and having a bad rep as a graphic design artist.

    An example of this is the Barack Obama poster from his election campaign in '09 I think (I dunno, I ain't American yo)
    Image
    This is the original image of the President that was taken by the photographer by the name of Mannie Garcia, who is an American freelance photojournalist currently based in Washington, D.C and has produced many works of photography to TIME, The Washington Post and USA Today.

    Image
    And this is the image that was used in the campaign for Barack unoffically, and created by an artist called Shepard Fairey. The poster was originally printed for the campaign with nothing else added to it, but then; it was recognized worldwide, used and sold as an image by 'x' person and then after the campaign, the artist of this work was sued, and it was only in 2011-2012 that the artist for the following conviction:

    Fairey was sentenced to two years of probation, 300 hours of community service, and a fine of $25,000.

    This artist did not own the licence for any edit or recreation of the original image to be distributed. Even the image as a reference as thickly layered as that. And this is basically what the above mumbo jumbo means. If you didn't make it 110%, don't sell it for a profit. I have done this mistake personally and I have learnt from it (I was young and stupid)

    Of course, this was on a national scale, but this could happen to you or this entire website if you use a font that you don't have a license for and get some sort of feeback / payment of the content you used.

    So long story short:
      - If you use a font, don't get paid for using it in any work.
      - If you use something you do not own, don't get paid for it in general.
        (This goes for everything, not fonts. Images, texts etc)
          Note: We can play under CS rules for now, but to be completely honest I would not be surprised at all if CS goes under because of this.

Wow! This is a really useful thread to see. I'm working on a signature shop, and this will help A LOT!
(That is not my full signature, just something to put up while I'm working on a new one c:)
But I think the user above me is RIGHT. We seriously need to not sell those fonts or images, because:
1. We could all get in a TON of trouble, and:
2. It's just plain dishonest.
I am going to try to make my signature shop more... following the rules of copyright?
(Could you not put a link to where you got the image in the siggies?)
