Orcas have always enchanted mankind. Native American tribes revere them as symbols of strength, and refuse to hunt them. Nowadays people flock to the coast to see them exist as they should; wild, happy, and living in close-knit families known as "pods".
A pod is ruled by a single matriarch. Pods live together, hunt together, and protect each other. Orcas rarely leave the pods of their birth. They communicate through a series of clicks and other vocalizations. Each pod has a distinct dialect, or language. Orcas have been found living along the coasts of every single continent. Females can live for sixty to eighty years, while males live forty to sixty.
There are two types of orcas, "transients" and "residents". Transients are quieter, eat mammals, and live in small family groups. Residents are noisier, eat fish, and live in huge pods consisting of multiple matrilines.
Orcas have a gestation period of seventeen months, and females reach sexual maturity around age fourteen, but generally don't reproduce until they're around seventeen or eighteen. Males reach sexual maturity around seveteen or twenty, but have little luck getting a mate until they are much older. Orcas do not mate within their own pods. After calves are born, they are helped to the surface by another pod member so they may take their first breath. The entire pod works together to raise a calf.

NOTE- We will be roleplaying as a population of Transient Orcas off the coast of Northern Alaska, just for simplicity.
1. This is a semi-literate roleplay. You don't need to have fancy coding, but at least three sentences per post, please, and each reply should contain a title with basic information about your character. Example,
2. Post forms in the discussion thread. This one is for roleplay only.
3. Only one matriarch per player, and preferably, two females for every male. Only females can be matriarchs, and a matriarch must be at least forty years old.
4. Orcas do not mate within their own pods, so naturally, this is not allowed in our roleplay.
5. You cannot join an established pod. If there are calves being born into an established pod, they are open for anyone on the waitlist to play. If you would like to join after we have started, you must join a completely new pod. Thus, it could take a while for enough people to join the new pod for it to be cleared to start (at least six members). Please be patient. I promise I will keep you updated.
6. Please do not specify family members or pod when you join. If you have a preference, feel free to put it, but I will assign you to a pod, and specify your relation to the other orcas in it. I know this is a bit more invasive than most roleplays, but I am trying to keep things simple. Thanks for your understanding. If you want to be a matriarch, I will create a new pod for you.
7. This is a wild orca roleplay. No aspect of it will involve captive orcas, unless we as a group decide to work that into the plot. Orcas are allowed to interact with humans, but briefly, and no permanent human characters are allowed.
8.Be courteous, accepting, and kind. This roleplay is for fun, so please, do your best to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable. We're going to have a BLAST! ^-^
