Unfortunately, the blizzard was too strong, and Frostpaw's parents were both killed. Frostkit and Dewkit struggled to make their way back to where they hoped the camp was. Both kits made it to the camp, but the medicine cats could not save Dewkit from his hypothermia, and he died, leaving Frostkit without any surviving family.

That cat he killed probably deserved it. She was more than eager to help her brother plot his revenge against her corrupted leader. She joined the fight, and earned her title as a Dark Forest cat when she murdered the leader's mate and kits.
