nothing is quite as terrifying as something you don't understand. Quinnely was witnessing something he'd never even heard of. he'd be haunted for a long time by the sounds of crunching bones, the snarling of something inhuman, a bellow that shook the earth he stood on. a raging beast soon replaced the girl. the same fiery anger, but a physical form far more frightening. he always imagined that if something scary happened, he'd end up leaping to the rescue. act logically, at least. but he was frozen, all except for taking a short step back and pressing himself up against the trunk of the tree. wide green orbs followed the massive white creature as it rose, pearly fangs glistening. another growl, one that trembled in the marrow of his bones. it pounced quicker than anything Quinn had ever seen. it wouldn't matter how slow it was, he was locked in place as if taken by a spell. the...the thing sunk its teeth into his shoulder, the pressure on his limp immediately snapping him out of his trance. Quinnely released the most bloodcurdling scream he had ever made in his life, going into a kicking and punching frenzy as adrenaline coursed through his body. he dug his fingers into the animal's snout, tears blurring his vision as he tore his way from the countless sharp teeth that ripped at his flesh. it didn't hurt- no, not yet. he was in a blind panic, mind not quite catching up to what was happening. this was the wolf from the other day. this thing knew him. this was Amelia. as soon as he'd squirmed his way out of those jaws, he was off. the boy was tripping his way out of the forest, hoping to god the...wolf...would stay behind. all that ran through his mind was the sickening crunching of the queen bee's bones and his shoulder as it was bitten into. another scream, this one forming Luka's name and scraping against every corner of his throat, seemingly tearing his vocal cords apart, a sound cringeworthy and filled to the brim with raw fear. he couldn't hear anything but his footsteps and his heavy heartbeat, the two sounds melting together into one. he felt dread so sickening and real that he wanted to shriek again as he heard barking behind him, deep and belly-filled and loud. paws thrummed in a horrible rhythm against the leafy floor. he was prey, for the second time in his life. he was a deer now being hunted rather than stuck in headlights.
