Pride's shy. She doesn't really like interacting with the other Neras and won't get near me unless I have food. For the first few days she wouldn't get near me at all. I've found that Pride prefers to delicately nibble at food from my hands. That's how our first touch came about. I was setting her food down like usual and I left the pasture when she suddenly she called out to me. I turned, and Pride shyly nosed her food bin towards me. I re-entered her paddock and offered her a handful of feed, which she ate. After she had eaten the entire bin slowly from my hands, she licked them clean and let me rub her nose. Don't you just love trust building?

I lead Pride to the crossties and slip a saddle onto her back. She immediately begins to jig and prance. I try to soothe her so I can get the saddle secured and let her get used to it. It takes some food and a few tries, but she calms. I secure the saddle and lead her around, feeling the massive beast trembling. She snorts and chirps at me.

I let her go and she freezes in place until I smack her rump and she slowly wanders the arena, getting used to the odd sensation. Lovely girl, Pride is.
