I very much disagree. If a 2010 rare is supposed to be worth a recent store pet (20 C$) then that is nowhere near fair. Everyone can have their own opinion of C$ to pet values, and the price of uncommon and lower rarities are very much up to the individual to decide, but this trade simply looks very unfair to the C$ in my opinion.

A very general guideline that does not apply to all situations is that rarity goes up one tier with a 2 year age difference. So a plain, no special demand 2012 rare would be worth a plain 2010 uncommon. A 2014 uncommon would be a 2012 common. So a 2008 rare is not worth a 2009 VR. I also do not agree that 2 uncommons = a rare.

If the 2008 rare dog is not an extended release (you can check here) then adding a mid-2009 rare could equal a VR. Months do matter, however.

I disagree with tawnypelt who posted above. There is no such thing as a two year gap for all rarities. A 2014 uncommon is worth a 2013 common, not a 2012 common. The only two year gap for raising rarities is from uncommons to rares since a rare is worth 4 uncommons of the same year. But an uncommon is worth 2 commons, not 4. And a common is worth 2 very commons. As well a pet is worth two pets of the next year when all the rarities are the same. So a 2012 common is worth 2 2013 commons.
So the two year gap only works for uncommons to rares.
1 2014 rare= 4 2014 uncommons= 2 2013 uncommons = 1 2012 uncommon
But
1 2014 uncommon = 2 2014 commons = 1 2013 common

However, between 09 and 08 is different since the gaps in rarity aren't as large between those two years. An 08 rare is worth an 09 rare plus an uncommon or two. At most an 09 rare plus 2010 rare.

To answer the question, an 09 very rare is worth an 08 rare plus a 2010 rare or slightly more by rarity. This is considering non lists and no pets with extended releases
