Name: Sargasso, after the Sargasso Sea (named for its sargassum seaweed)
Sex: Male
Personality: Sargasso is a very laid back being. He lounges in shallow water and naps frequently, and almost nothing can wake him up once he's dozed off. He serenely wanders shallow seawater, making sure everything's going swimmingly. Treading lazily through the water, eyes half-closed, seaweed mane streaming behind him, he may seem absolutely impossible to anger. Such is not the case, however. It may take a lot to anger him, but once you do, you'd better run. He is very powerful and surprisingly fast, despite his lumbering gait. When he is well and truly angry, he can viciously attack with all of his strength. He usually makes sure his victims are too injured to really fight back, and then he will drag them back underneath the surf. They never come back.
But, as said earlier, Sargasso is rarely ever angry. He's actually fairly pleasant to be around, and will love you forever if you bring him some candy and play him some music. He makes a pretty good friend, because he will be a big dripping body guard.
He can go a long time between meals, but he usually feasts on sea creatures that are (unfortunately for them) nearby. He usually binge eats and then doesn't eat again for a while, but woe betide anyone that interrupts his hunt for food. He is actually a fairly aggressive predator.
No matter how full he is, though, you can tempt him with candy.
Favorite Food: Sargasso absolutely cannot resist candy. Any kind of candy will immediately catch his attention. He rarely leaves the ocean, and even then, he never leaves the beach. There's not exactly much candy in the ocean. He can snack on tuna and abalone and caviar any day of the week, but candy is a rare delicacy.
Favorite Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy21fr7z6wY This always gets his head bobbing.
Relationships:Sylvia-friend: Sylvia met him while she was taking a shortcut home along the beach. She had been carrying a bag of candy, so Sargasso rushed out of the surf to charge after the sugar he smelled. Sylvia screamed and ran, terrified in general of big wolves charging her, until she accidentally dropped her bag. Sargasso sat down next to the bag and started stuffing the sweets into his face, now ignoring Sylvia. She realized that he'd been after the candy the whole time. Once he was done, she timidly approached to get her bag back, and found out that the seaweed monster was actually very laid back, casually sprawling on his side in the sand while he chatted. Sylvia and Sargasso have been buddies since, and if Sylvia's ever in trouble, she knows she can run to the beach for backup.
History: Sargasso is far older than he appears. His parents were nobility in a seaside city, back in the day. However, they'd managed to anger a sea spirit while the lady was with child. When the lady gave birth, she and her husband gasped in horror. Their newborn son already reeked of saltwater and seaweed, and his skin was as cold as the sea. It was clear that the sea spirit had already claimed their son for her own, as punishment for angering her. Still, the distraught nobles tried to raise their son as their own. His seaweed mane and tail grew rapidly, and as he crawled through the house, he dripped saltwater. Between him growing unnaturally rapidly and his ocean essence, it became increasingly clear that he couldn't stay. The final straw was when he attacked house staff with no warning. He'd always had a furious appetite, but this staff member hadn't even had food at the time...
He was unceremoniously thrown off the dock into the ocean by his own parents.
Swimming came instinctively to Sargasso, and he wasted no time in hunting his first ocean prey. For a few years, his parents breathed a sigh of relief. Their monster son was gone, and they could pretend he had never happened.
But then one day, the lady was collecting seashells when she saw a seaweed-covered lump rising from the sea, and beady eyes stared at her from under the weeds as two pointed ears rose up, swiveling. Its nostrils flared as it snuffled, and then it turned to face her, rising to full standing height, seawater rolling off its fur.
It was her monstrous son, fully grown. She gulped and backed up nervously as he stepped onto the sand, noting how well-muscled the beast looked.
He let out a few grunts, and it took the lady a few tries to realize he was saying "Mother." as he advanced.
She screamed for a guard, and they came running in front of her right as the monster lunged, letting out a roar of sorrow and anger.
The lady looked on in horror as the guard was dragged backwards into the surf, her son's teeth locked in their shoulder. In a few more moments, they had both vanished under the waves. They lapped gently at the beach, the only sign that anything had happened being a thin trickle of red in the sand.
The lady ran from the beach, and neither she nor her husband ever returned to the beach. For years, the beach was declared off-limits.
Eventually, after the old nobles were gone, the beach was opened back up, and for a decade, nobody was taken, Occasionally there were sightings of the legendary seaweed monster...
Even when someone did vanish, people decided to keep the beach open. He attacked less often than sharks, admittedly...
They kept hoping the seaweed monster would leave, but he never did. Eventually, the townspeople gave up and decided they might as well try and bring tourists in with the promise of monster sightings.
Sargasso didn't care, though. Nothing much bothered him. As long as they didn't bug him or hurt him, he didn't care.
He had to learn to stop caring after his own parents tossed him unlovingly into the cold ocean, never to return for him.
