I'm Firedancer77, a non-owner, who happened to stumble across these adopts because some friends were discussing them. I'd love a chance to get my own. Maybe this will be my lucky day? We'll have to see!

No one is actually quite sure of her actual name. She doesn't give it. She tells everyone her name is Nickie, but she's a horrible liar. Most can see right through it. However, most let it go. It's her own life. Her own, personal reasons. No need to pry...Right? Let sleeping dogs lie. If she doesn't want people to know her real name, then there must be a reason.

Image

Nickie is female. She may not always seem like it at times with her spunky attitude and her always traveling, but she is.

Image
Image

Nickie never seems like a lady-like girl. Ever. She's a little snarky - even with her friends - and is pretty tough. She doesn't like being weak, so she isn't always open about her actual feelings, tending to get defensive instead. She has a hot temper with a sharp-tongue to match, but only whenever she is getting defensive. Otherwise, she's good-natured most of the time.
She travels quite a bit, never staying in one place too long. She always stops to learn a new trick or trade wherever she is, but she also will make toys well she's there, and give them to a few children before leaving. However, she has a softer side. It's part of the reason she's so defensive. Something happened in her past...Something that upsets her. But nobody knows for sure. How could they, whenever she won't even tell her own name? She's a horrible liar though, unless she's storytelling. Then, she could stretch the story and change so many aspects that it couldn't even be the same yet you wouldn't be the wiser. Some say that she talks about her past with some of her stories, but that's just idle gossip to most. It is curious though, how she got a bundle of stories like that. Just her imagination? Or something more? She weaves them well either way.
Guilt and pain seem to lurk behind her stories though. Some make her sad, yet she says it's just because they're sad stories. But is that truly the case? It seems that she leaves before anyone gets the chance to dig deeper...

Image
Image

Nickie is considered a jack-of-all trades, learning at least one thing from each place she travels to. However, there is one skill she has always prided herself in for being excellent in. And that would be her toy making skills. She loves making toys, and her favorite to make would be marionettes. She loves the feeling of control they give, and also the challenge in using them. She knows the struggle of untangling the strings, and the trouble of learning to use the puppet. But she also knows the feeling of happiness you get from their antics when watching them - even more so, when preforming with them - and loves the look on the children's faces when they are watching. After all, why do something if no one gets to enjoy it but you?

"Gather round, gather round!" Called the Hazard Cat from the street corner. She had the type of voice that demanded your attention, but not in a rude way. In fact, it was more like you felt the need to look at her when she spoke. It was a voice that knew how to get attention, to say the least. She sat by her traveling cart, watching the crowd gather. "Just a penny for your ears! I promise to tell you a tale that will be worth your time!"
She pushed a small hat out in front of her. There was murmuring in the crowd, and some jostling. "Come on, just a penny! One little penny! Nothing more if the story isn't to your taste!"
Finally, a young Hazard Cat stepped forward, dropping a coin into the hat. "There you go, miss!"
Nickie liked this young one. He seemed to have a good heart, and he was polite. Normally, young ones would demand a story after putting a coin in. This one had manners So, she sat up straighter, and decided to tell her best tale.
"Once upon a time," She began with the classic story beginning, believing it made the story more professional, "there was a young kitten. Her name was Wendy, and she had a good life. She was loved, and she loved. She had a family. A mother, a father, an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. She hadn't been born into the family, but she was adopted, taken in and loved. They were content. Happy. They lived in a small cottage in a town, and they were rather poor. Their father made toys, and taught the trade to his children, and their mother made quilts. Not very large or prosperous businesses. But they loved each other, and that was all that mattered.
But sadly, these times did not last. The father had gotten into some debt, and one day didn't return home from his workshop. After some time, their mother sent Wendy to check on him. After all, it was worrying that he had not returned. It was getting late, and the stars would soon be out. So Wendy went.
What she came to find was the workshop in ruins. She couldn't bare to go inside them, for she feared she already knew what would be waiting there. She returned home, to her family, and told of what she saw. There were tears from her siblings.
Yet worst still was what happened to her mother. She didn't cry. Instead, she seemed to go into shock. She pulled away from the world, no longer sowing. She just sat in her chair by the fire, not responding to any of her children's cries.
Their eldest brother assumed control. He gathered them up, and had them pack their few belongings. And they were going to leave. But the youngest sister suddenly balked. She refused to go. No matter how hard they tried to reason with her, she refused to go. Her eldest brother lost his temper. He insisted on going, even if she wouldn't.
The younger brother refused to go without his sister. They were as tight as siblings could be, thicker than a pack of thieves. Neither would leave without the other. Wendy was torn. She could stay and keep her siblings safe, but most likely end up dead or worse, or she could leave with her brother.
She made the decision she would regret.
Wendy and her older brother left that day. He was so angry...It made no sense. He never got angry like this. The loss of their father had put too much responsibility on him too soon. It had caused him to grow up too fast. He had to, in order to keep them alive.
They traveled from city to city, finding whatever work they could. Wendy's brother made it a game, telling her that whoever could find the best work and tell the best story of it would get first pick of the food. At first, Wendy's brother always won. So, Wendy payed close attention to his stories and learned how he made them so good. By the end of it, she was getting first pick.
But, tragedy was still in store for the duo. Wendy was waiting at the camping spot for her brother. She waited and waited and waited. She waited for two days for her brother. Yet, he still didn't show. It was finally when she heard some gossip from the town did she know what happened. He had been stolen away by a group of thieves. Something told her that he was gone. That he would not be coming back.
Yet, Wendy kept going. It is said that she travels from city to city searching for her brother, looking for her only family left. For she heard, as she traveled, that her mother and siblings were dead. From what she gathered, sickness had killed them. It'd swept through the entire city, but they were too weak to fight it. If only she had been there! If only she had tried harder to persuade them to come! She continued to blame herself for all of the trouble as she traveled. Somehow, she felt it was her fault. And she wanted to make up for it by finding the only family that she had left. And so she set about finding him, still playing the game that she used to play with her brother. Still finding the best work and telling the best story to herself, as if that is her hope that her brother is still out there."
As she finished the story, the crowd murmured their approval. More coins filled her hat, and she bowed low, smiling. But, the little one who first payed her was the only one to notice something else.
"Miss, are you alright?"
"Call me Nickie, little one." She gave a half smile.
"Well, Miss Nickie, are you alright?" She laughed a little that the little guy still had the Miss on there.
"Yes, I'm fine."
"Are you sure? You look sad. Does telling that story make you sad?" The genuine concern on the little guy's face helped ease her troubled conscious slightly.
"The story does make me sad. It is a sad story, for one to lose all their family like that, and to be left to wander. It is a very sad and lonely life. I feel bad for Wendy, even if it is just a story." The little one nodded, he too looking sad. He turned to go, and Nickie called after him. "Wait, what's your name?"
"My name is Henry." He gave her a small smile.
"Well, good day, Henry. Maybe I'll see you again tomorrow, if I don't leave."
"Maybe!" He sounded cheered up by that thought, and as he padded away, he heard Nickie whispering to herself.
"Milo, today I told our story to the crowds. It was..." Henry heard no more of what she said, and he had to be getting home before his mother got mad at him.
He never did get to ask Nickie about Milo, or about how she was talking to herself. For, the next day, she was already gone when he went to see her spot. All that he had was a small marionette that was left at his door, with a note saying to put it to good use. And he would. He would treasure it, and the story Nickie told.
