Yes an older more experienced lion does parent and teach the alpha before he is fit to rule. Typically a lion of high standing like head warrior, secondary leader, etc. Secondary Leaders take over and share responsibilities of the pride until the child becomes of age to rule

Yes quite like that actually c: However, when a cub hits about 100 years old i would say they are capable of leading....i mean 100 years of experience is a lot if you think about it, but per tradition the alpha cannot officially rule until their 200th birthday.
