welcome raee! happy to see a new face <3

has coding/roleplaying affected you or your life outside of roleplaying?
its improved my writing in ways i would have never learned through some crummy english class like holy cow wow. its something i love to do and i'm not ashamed of it. i have real life friends who i've told and they freak with "wat no way i role play/code too" and its really only strengthened my relationships with people. its also taken up an unsightly chunk of storage space of my laptop because as cap oh so lovely mentioned there is certainly an addiction to pictures. even if i never ever use those pictures its just the haunting "what if" in the back of my head that says "nope you need them char if you don't save them you'll die"

      @ crash
you're so on point with that response. everything i look at ever i'm always silently "now how can i make that work on a form" cx

      @ bloom
oh little duckling please don't feel that way! like ab said, you go back and look at my old stuff? any of our old stuff? eugh somebody can use that as a torture method on me it makes me go so mental. you only go up from where you're at, always!

who or what inspired you to start improving your writing skills and how much you write?
as i mentioned earlier it was really deffs, diem, the gang who inspired me to push myself further
then it quickly became a personal goal sorta thing

are you open about your roleplaying to friends/family/etc?
yyyyyyeeeeeesssss? sorta kinda? its not something to be ashamed of by any means its just very hard to explain to people because as ab said, youthful people like to take it in wrong ways while elder people get concerned because "its not real" and "too much time online" and stuff. my friends who do it too know and i've shown some other friends who i super trust... but its not that big a deal to me really. like if it comes up i'll just be like "yeah i do that" as if its normal like i said its nothing to be ashamed of. and if people chastise you for it when you do tell them well then you just weeded out a bad seed in your life and its all for the better in the end.

have ever participated in/considered other forms of roleplay other than on forums?
yeah actually! a friend and i have talked about getting a notebook and just passing it back and fourth with one another with our "posts" which i think if you have the means if a SPLENDID idea. just raw thought with pen and paper. yas.

whoa the pages though

Postby diana. » Fri Jun 26, 2015 7:21 pm

oh god i just finished reading the last 10 pages and whoa the conversation was intense, lol.
i just want to point out that neither side is wrong. tbh i love pretty forms but what i look
for a roleplayer is how well they can write and based on that is how i accept people for
my roleplays c:

who or what inspired you to start improving your writing skills and how much you write?
hm well the whole literate forum did and i just thought that i should become a better writer.

are you open about your roleplaying to friends/family/etc?
my friends don't know but my family definitely does and all
they do is yell at how much time i spend on cs cx

has coding/roleplaying affected you or your life outside of roleplaying?
oh yes. as soon as i learnt how to code, i started designing clothes and
decorating my room a diff. way. tbh, coding has had a huge impact on
my life.

@everyone, thank you for welcoming and nice to see you all! c:

do you ever code/write something you just become so proud of that you sorta stare/read in awe for awhile?
well, whenever i code a form or signature i like i kind of stare at it for some time thinking about how much i have improved since i first started coding/prettying up stuff for roleplays. then i realize it actually isn't that good, notice all the flaws in it and close the tab. i guess i am a self-conscious narcissist?

are you open about your roleplaying to friends/family/etc?
um, no, not really. one of my friends and my mother know that i write, but other than that no. i haven't shared my writing with anyone.

who or what inspired you to start improving your writing skills and how much you write?
when i accidentally stumbled upon the advanced/semi-lit and lit+ section of roleplay forums and saw some wonderful coding and writing, i instantly wanted to work towards matching that level of writing, especially since it was pretty hard for me to keep up with the one-liner roleplays i was in where it took being away for half an hour to return back to 10+ pages of new posts.

has coding/roleplaying affected you or your life outside of roleplaying?
i spend more time on cs than i used to when i didn't roleplay and didn't pretty up my forms for characters at all, so yes, kind of.

have ever participated in/considered other forms of roleplay other than on forums?
long time ago i roleplayed with a friend through facebook messages (it was harry potter/hogwarts themed, it think), does that count?

@everyone

I just realized how hyprocritical I was. As the founder of "literate aliens", I know I discussed the wrong topic to the wrong people. So if I angered the majority of you, please excuse me. The world definitely has people with different thoughts and opinions in regrads to practically everything, so if my opinions came off offensive, they are indeed my opinions, albeit maybe the only opinion like this here. I'm not sure how to put it, but I definitely do have a pessimistic attitude towards roleplaying, having it contain so many bad memories in these few years embedded within. So I'm now just going to stalk y'all here instead, since my opinions are slightly contreversial.

On a happier note, Forgotten Toys is progressing pretty well. I have implemented a colorpicker on the side/floating bar so when you do make forms, you don't have to open up a new tab to do it. c: But I still need your help. If you have an idea for a BBCode, like our box one, send me a PM!

?? wow i missed a lot while i was asleep lmao i've never seen this thread move so quickly before

@mint that's great to hear! honestly the only reason i'm kind of iffy about using forgotten toys
is because everyone's forms look screwed up on my computer since i have a large screen and it
seems like the with of the posts responds to the size of your window.

does roleplaying/coding affect your life outside of roleplaying?
kind of. it affects the way i spend at least some of my free time (obviously) but that's mostly it.
but as crasher mentioned, sometimes i'll be listening to a song and hear some lyrics and think
"that would look good on a character form/roleplay topic". idk if this also counts but i've picked
up html/css/jquery in the past six months or so. i don't remember exactly what inspired me to
do so — i think i just wanted to make my own tumblr theme — but i recently took a look at the
html behind bbcoded character forms and it was interesting to see what each property (such as
center/left/right alignment, list, and font size) is equivalent to.

are you open about your roleplaying to friends/family/etc?
um if my friends ever found out i think i'd jump into a hole and die. my brother discovered that i
roleplay like two years ago and he always teased me for it/tried to see what i was writing, which
was annoying as hell. then i started coming on more and more sporadically and stopped posting
altogether for almost the entirety of the 2014-2015 school year, so he probably thinks i quit. so no,
i'm not open about it lol

have ever participated in/considered other forms of roleplay other than on forums?
i've only ever roleplayed on chicken smoothie and advanced scribes tbh and i'll probably stop role-
playing when i get to college or something, so i don't think i'll have time to get into other forms of
roleplay.

who or what inspired you to start improving your writing skills and how much you write?
i think i got into "semi-lit" rping within a year or two of my joining this website. eleven/twelve-
year-old me thought she was pretty great and you got gems like this (btw it was 9:41 p.m. when i
made that post, which i guess was younger me's definition of late), this (i was rping with myself rip),
and this (you can tell i considered myself to be truly "semi-lit" by then). anyways, i was heavily in-
fluenced by the people i rped with; the more literate they were, the more i was forced to keep
up. the semi-literate & literate roleplayer's club and the roleplay rant thread (which i kind of miss
ngl) also inspired me to improve, and at a rapid rate. on the downside, this ushered in a period
of self-satisfaction and superiority in which i would rudely decline those whom i didn't deem to be
literate enough for my rps. i don't think i even got out of that phase until last year because i rem-
ember being pretty harsh to some people messaging me about reservations for the roleplay i made
in august.

do you ever code/write something you become so proud of that you stare/read in awe for awhile?
i was pretty pleased with my two most recent forms, flynn and aurelia, and i've been going back to
look at them every so often for the past few days, but other than that i'm aware that everything else
in my storage thread is mediocre at best. i start to cringe at my own forms within ten minutes of co-
mpleting them so this is a rare case lmao. i reread my own writing slightly more often since it's more
likely for me to be pleased with that than my coding, but it's time-consuming because my latest rep-
lies have been close to or over 1000 words long.

where do you get your images?
      one word. tumblr.

      emotionally attached to any character?
i am married to most of my characters. i love them so much and i cry when their roleplays die.
every character is sort of a part of me so it's like losing my baby. my fictional baby.

has coding/roleplaying affected you or your life outside of roleplaying?
definitely. it improved my writing a lot and i can somewhat do html bc of coding cxcx ALSO thanks to coding/roleplaying i possess the very important skill of knowing names of models. VERY USEFUL

do you ever code/write something you just become so proud of that you sorta stare/read in awe for awhile?
at times cx with some forms i'm like 'eh could be better, could be worse' but others i am effin proud of.
since i did switch accounts, i moved a few things onto my current storage thread. i was too lazy to move
everyone so the ppl i have on there now are my favorites.

are you open about your roleplaying to friends/family/etc?
yeah. my brother actually roleplayed on cs for a while. my fam knows but it's hard to explain to people who haven't heard the term.

have ever participated in/considered other forms of roleplay other than on forums?
i've tried both pm and skype but forums are so much easier. it's all in one place.

who or what inspired you to start improving your writing skills and how much you write?
other people (like my friends here on cs). cs helped me improve a lot which i'm really grateful for.

munchkin kinda mentioned this so i'm curious.
      Code: Select all
[b]what would you do if you accepted someone and then realized their form was stolen? what do you do when you see a stolen form in someone else's storage thread etc?[/b]

personally, that's a really easy question. in response to munchkin's post, i would kick him out.
not because it makes them less literate but because they're an ass.
i stalk random storage threads when i'm bored and if i see a form that has been stolen, i pm them right away.
usually it's one of my friend's forms. these i could recognize even if i went blind.
i can be a raging bee when i see stolen forms because as a coder i know how much effort goes into them.

first off, i totally agree with hayley. they'd be outta my roleplay for sure.
if i recognized the stolen work, i'd pm the original creator, of course, and let them handle it however they see fit. anyone who steals entire forms and thinks they can get away with it is a... poopoohead.

i would do what you expect: politely ask them to please remove themselves and the stolen form from the roleplay. but only if they stole the entire form. if they stole only the coding, i would ask them to remove their form, but give the, a chance to redo it. after all, they probably only stole the coding because they were lazy, but if you steal the text too, just no. it's not even your character. either way, i would pm the owner.

      Code: Select all
[b]what would you do if you joined a roleplay and the owner/another member stole your form?[/b]

i wake up and literally 10 pages are added 0.0

what would you do if you accepted someone and then realized their form was stolen? what do you do when you see a stolen form in someone else's storage thread etc?
well since i've never actually made a roleplay, only joined, i can't really answer that. but i think i would do the same as you guys, ask them to remove themselves etc.

what would you do if you joined a roleplay and the owner/another member stole your form?
well if my coding were that good, i'd pm them and probably, being the annoying person i am, ask them if they made it. silly person c:
